More of a distributor than a shooter. His skating is average plus and has room for improvement. His stride is efficient. More leg / core strength will lead to additional separation.
Hughes has the ability to wait for pressure to arrive and make plays in tight areas. At times he exposes pucks in the middle of the ice or tries to make a more difficult play than is required. Having said that his hockey IQ overall is sound. He doesn't possess an elite element but also doesn't have any glaring weaknesses in his game. Can be used in variety of roles.
