Zegras injured most of the year, seems like he might not fit as well as Anaheim would’ve thought and out of all their young guys I think he’s the most likely young player they’d move.

If you think Trevor isn’t a ‘fit’ why on earth would Marner be?

Anaheim doesn’t want Marner like Gudas doesn’t want Toronto

The difference between Marner and Zegras is a heck of a lot more and Gudas and a 3rd.

You are correct Liljegren is worth a great deal more than a 7th. 25 year old top 4 defenceman are worth a lot.

Precisely. And we're not willing to pay that difference because it's too rich for our blood.

Oh, I don't think so. The only people I can recall speaking badly about him are Toronto fans who blame him for the latest playoff exit -- indisputably unfairly, in my mind.

I repeat what I've said before -- the main antipathy of other teams' fans to a Marner trade isn't because they think that his trade value is too low but that it's too high for their team to pay.

Let's assume that Marner came with an 8-year $100 million extension. What would his trade value from Anaheim be? Two of Zegras Gauthier Carlsson McTavish Terry Mintyukov 2024 first? No, thanks. (Never mind that it would cost more.) How about Los Angeles? Unless you're willing to take DuBois, a similar roster-stripping would have to occur.

Unless the return is commensurate with a rental (current first, A roster player, A prospect), I don't see a trade for Marner that benefits both sides adequately.

Is this the same "top 4" defenseman who is routinely benched in the play offs on a team devoid of top 4 defensemen? He certainly still has the potential to improve, but a lot like Marner, his current value is not high when compared to perceived potential. If he didn't shoot right and was a first round draft pick, he would probably not even be with the major league team right now.

He played hurt this past playoffs and played just one game but was playing 20+ minutes prior to getting hurt. But reality doesn't matter when it's the Leafs. Everyone is a cap dump and an AHL player.
