Description

Pittsburgh gets the veteran net-front presence their woeful 30th-in-the-league power-play needs, while unloading last year's unproductive off-season acquisition. Anders Lee on the power play can confidently be predicted to outperform Reilly Smith, so the difference in AAV and term shouldn't require any balancing draft picks.

Whether the Islanders would be willing to trade their Captain intra-divisionally is, of course, a serious question.

This is a very uneventful off-season. In reality, I expect one major roster move by Dubas, but I can't imagine what it is -- maybe the rumored Karlsson-for-Marner blockbuster?

PIT easily declines. Not only was Smith more productive than Lee this year while primarily playing third line minutes, he makes $2 million less and is off the books next season. Smith has value now, and as an expiring contract, will have value at the deadline if that’s how the season unfolds for PIT. I want nothing to do with Lee’s contract. Easy decline.

Add isles first round pick and pens MAY consider taking on an extra 9 mil in cap space.
Otherwise that's an easy pass.
