What a trade down might look like

Created by: RicXX
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 7, 2024
Published: May 12, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just an idea as to what a trade down might look like, Mtl just used in this example. Not sure if the Hawks would do it, nor do I believe they should but, it's an option. 2oa for 5oa and 24-28oa with a high 2025 2nd.

Might be able to bundle the 20th and 24th to move up as well.

I wish it were that reasonable. But I think it would cost the CGY 1st instead of the MTL 2nd in 2025
Probably also need to add a B-tier Prospect like Sean Farrell.

And still Davidson probably would not accept that offer. He would just pick his guy.

I don't see this happening. The Habs and Hawks are in similar positions when it comes to prospects. Both are near the top in the league for overall rankings. Both what high end vs quantity. So it boils down to the Habs have to think the #2 is far better than #5, but the Hawks have to think the opposite. That #5 & #2 aren't very far off.

The idea was due to KD and Co were prepared for 4OA, and took a look at what happened last year. Could Demidov slide down the draft order? If they still want him, risk to trade down.

You might be right with the Calgary 2025 1st rd pick, over the 2025 2nd.

Oh I don't see it happening either, but it's still an option on the table and I haven't seen anyone post it up yet.

It couldn't be Montreal. They have pretty much the same needs as chicago so it wouldn't make sense in that regard

Mtl is just an example, as is stated in the description. Yes it means other picks would come into play, but it's more on what kind of offer it would take for KD to consider it.

They got lucky to get Bedard. They got lucky to stay at #2 this season. Don't mess with the luck. Draft best available at pick #2 (I'm officially in on demidov) then try to trade back into the top 12 and get the best defenseman available. They collected all these assets. Now it's time to use them.

No matter how you look at it Montreal will get a dream player at 5 so no reason to move up, even if somehow only one defenseman gets drafted in the top 4 (lindstrom and demidov get drafted before Levshunov and Silayev which is very unlikely) Montreal will get an A+ prospect at 5
