Habs offseason

Created by: eddyed24
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 9, 2024
Published: May 9, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't think the Habs will have a really busy summer. However I think they'll make a few moves.

1. Sign a young ufa to play in their top 6.
With the 5th overall pick they'll likely pick a forward however that player won't be ready to play mext season. They have the capspace to sign a player to upgrade their top 6 if that player doesn't cost too much. I think a guy like DeBrusk, Duclair or Sprong could fit in Montreal's plan.

2. Trade a defenseman
The Habs have a logjam on defense and I'm sure they'll try to use Winnipeg pick to either move up in the draft or pick a prospect. I think with the fact that they're not sure if there'll be able to sign a ufa as part of my option 1, they'll trade for a player around the same age then Mtl's young core. I think they could look at someone like Kaliyev who could need a change of scenary. Other options would be Holtz.

3. Try to sign Ghule and Slafkovsky to long term extansion. Slafkovsky had a excellent second half and he started to look like a 1st overall pick. He's a big part of the future so Mtl has to sign him long term. Same with Ghule who's a steady d-man.

Remove the 1st round pick for Kaliyev. We don't need him anyway

As a Kings fan, I think that Barron is probably an overpay for Kaliyev, who is in the team's doghouse. What that first is doing in there, I have no idea.

Would you like us to add DuBois?
