This trade seems like a bit of a nothingburger for the Flames. If that's all we can get for Markstrom then I prefer to simply keep him for 2 seasons.
First and foremost, we're getting a goalie back in the trade. Georgiev is only signed for one more season, but the Flames still have both Wolf and Vladar, with only one net.
The 2nd, likely a late 2nd in 2026, let's look at potential picks around #60 from 2004:
Top of the lineup players(2% chance): Kucherov(#58, 2011), Letang(#62, 2005)
Middle 6/top 4(10% chance): Siegenthaler(#57, 2015), Dvorak(#58, 2014), Bertuzzi(#58, 2013), Zucker(#59, 2010), Moser(#60, 2021), Severson(#60, 2012), Tatar(#60, 2009), Dubinsky(#60, 2004), Simmonds(#61, 2007), Goligoski(#61, 2004).
That gives us about a 2%(2/102) chance to get a top player, and a 10%(10/102) to get a middle of the lineup player that is nothing special. With an 88% chance of that being a depth player or bust.
At the same time, Malinski is 25, he's a depth D at this point, and he would require waivers at the beginning of next season.
