Prospect Pool post Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jamnjon</b></div><div>I point this out frequently, but I give the Athletic's prospect pool rankings a major asterisk. The biggest thing for the Sharks is they've had very few prospects graduate. Teams like Chicago had Bedard, Korchinski, and Vlasic graduate while the Sharks only lost Eklund. That's not to downplay the massive growth of the Sharks' pool, I just think I'd rate them below a few more teams.</div></div>
I don't even think SJS is top 10 in terms of pool.
Maybe after this draft.
There are good dmen mid 1st and early 2nd.

Also random rant, but the fact that they can't stream every preseason game in this day and age is crazy.</div></div>
They just seem to make sports harder and harder to access. Advertising revenue.

Prospect Pool post Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>Honestly I don't even think it's that far away. Smith, Celebrini, Musty, Bords, Gushchin, Shakir, Thompson and Graf are all guys who could legitimately compete for a full time NHL spot this next year. And then Cardwell, Robins, Halttunen, Bystedt, Lund, Pohlkamp, Cagnoni, Edstrom, Pulli could be in that spot in a year, some of those guys with an outside chance to get a shot THIS year.
The next couple years will be fun to see a lot of new guys get shots in the show</div></div>
Just because they get a spot doesn't mean they'll perform at the level we need/want.
I love watching the young guys play. I'm one of the weirdos at those preseason games.

Prospect Pool post Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Waffelz</b></div><div>But that's the case with every prospect group. When you say it doesn't look good, it objectively does compared to almost any other team in the league (except maybe the Sabres/Wings/Jackets). For the relatively short time that they have been rebuilding, San Jose has done an incredible job acquiring high tier assets. They jumped from 17th to 4th in rankings last year, and will almost certainly go to 1st or 2nd this year.</div></div>
I don't disagree that they secured rights to some potentially great/good players. Or that they've revamped pretty quick (though other teams have now vacated those spots).
I'm just trying to say "we'll see". I'm hesitant to get excited because it's so far away.

Also, Pohlkamp I'm going to call it now will be a 5'10" version of Pesce. He looks like a fantastic 2-way d-man.
Also don't sleep on Rimashevsky. Had a really solid year in the KHL as a draft +1. 6'2" sniper right wing. There's not a lot of footage obviously but what I have seen, he looks awesome</div></div>

Prospect Pool post Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Waffelz</b></div><div>What an odd take. The Sharks prospect pool was a consensus top 5 group, and they're about to add the 1OA + another mid 1st to it. They have a far better prospect group than almost any other NHL team at this point.</div></div>
Not everyone works out the way they're drafted/projected is my point.
Hence why I said I'd be happy with half of these guys working out.
The defense is okay. I see a lot of 3/4/5/6 guys. Maybe 1 #2 guy. No #1's currently.
The goalies are awful, but honestly that whole category really seems to be changing. Even the top 5 goalies aren't like the top 5 goalies from a decade ago.
The one good thing Grier has done is target a LOT of 200 foot guys.
In fact, if Eiserman drops to that mid-round I bet you he looks elsewhere.

Offseason tweaks

I think keeping Duchene is a priority, mainly for his chemistry with Marchment and Seguin, who are signed with term. This likely means moving on from Pavelski, which I think is more than fine. Stankoven or Bourque can "replace" him.
Having 3 lines that can be 1st lines is the main reason for their success. I think what you did here hinders that. Although I do like getting some extra size with Mantha.</div></div>
Pavs coming back to SJS for 10m/1year.

A lot of that is good luck, not him specifically imo.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharksdoee</b></div><div>I don't completely dislike what he's done with what he was given and think he's been fine, but for every solid trade he makes there's another head scratcher value wise. That Burns trade with retention was awful from the start and only got worse. Not sure how he retained on Hertl for 6 years and gave up 2 high 3rds in the process for what amounts to 2 late 1sts. EK trade was fine even though he was coming off a great season because his cap was a limiting factor.
Did great on Duke and Meier.
Now that the cap mess is (mostly) clear, I expect him to have some experience and make good decisions value-wise in both draft (his 2023 was A+ in my view) and trades here on out.</div></div>
Nice to see another Sharks fan critical of Grier on here.
He's won some minor stuff, but overall I think he's kinda lost.
That Hertl trade might be on Hertl more than Grier btw. I hate that trade.
