Imagine if Hextall Didnt Ruin The Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>And I think that's where my criticisms mostly lie. We can make these ACGMs of "oh, what if Hextall didn't make mistakes" and they undo his bad moves instead of replacing them with good ones. In hindsight, we have the cap space to add to this team, and we'd still have our '24 1st to use for an upgrade if we didn't make the Karlsson deal. The team wouldn't necessarily be better if Hextall didn't screw everything up, but it would have the assets and cap to make additions and be decisively better.</div></div>
I didn’t use that space to add to the team because that’s not the point of what I’m doing. The point t of why I made this was to show how he made horrendous decisions that are unforgivable. The Marino trade was unforgivable. Letting McCann go was unforgivable. I know the Matheson trade had its defenders but I wasn’t among them. I’d rather have the Matheson Marino pairing right now than have EK. This team didn’t need EK. That’s obviously the work of the current regime but if Marino was still here we wouldn’t have had much of a reason to add EK. Likewise, if Hextall was never our GM the team is obviously very different right now. I can’t use the cap space to make this fiction come to life. The point was to demonstrate the awful hand Dubas received.

Malkin walks as a UFA. Trochek is signed in his place. Carter either gets picked by Seattle or doesn’t get the dumb extension so he’s a UFA. Who knows, but I do know this team is a playoff team and wins at least one round.

2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #6: The Quest for Lord Stanley's Cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyScotty</b></div><div>Latvia, Denmark, Norway, France, and Austria are getting more competitive they just need those couple of elite players or quality depth like Germany and Switzerland to have a cinderella type run in a tournament.
England, Poland, and Japan would be awesome countries for ice hockey too</div></div>
The Brits and Poland are definitely on the rise to varying degrees. Norway is another one that I really want to see take the next step. France and Italy are probably the most frustrating because if they cared more they could put together teams comparable to the Germans and Swiss. I don’t know why Estonia and Lithuania can’t follow Latvia’s example? Most of Europe could be at least competitive if the interest grows. As far as Asia goes, Japan would be great but if that was going to happen I think it would have followed the Nagano Olympics when the country went into love move with Hasek and Jagr.

It’s definitely getting better than it was 10-20 years ago. Germany and Switzerland were nothing 20 years ago. Some other countries are moving up the ranks too like Latvia. I think Poland could be a bit of a dark horse. There’s nothing holding them back from developing a decent program other than interest.

I do think one of Eller or Acciari should be moved out if not both. But that's easier said than done.
I'd rather move Acciari maybe OTT or BUF if they are not on his list.
To add to the problem list, Sprong will not play here again....ever. I am sure both sides agree to that.</div></div>
I thought a M-NTC could still go on waivers? If not then that sucks.

World championships is a nice distraction when your team isn’t relevant at this time of year. I really want Poland to actually get good at hockey.

Pens 2024-2025
Sorry but this is all over the place. Each trade has some serious issues, especially the Vegas one. They aren’t going to give away a cheap young Dman for that pile of scraps. I can’t imagine Nashville cares to take on Rakell without moving a great deal of cap back and they wouldn’t have any need for a guy playing in Europe and another guy who could clear waivers. No one is going to give up anything right now for Graves contract. It’s also not worth it to us to pay to dump that contract, so he has to stay.
Jake resigning here is a pipe dream. Chatfield will probably make 2.5-3 million as a UFA. Why is Carrier signed to play on the left? I don’t see any reason to keep Acciari. Put him on waivers and if someone takes him good for us.

new coach and redvolution
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigVuVu</b></div><div>not to mention that Canes are like 0/20 on PP. this is unacceptable vs any nhl goalie. RBA and Jeff Daniels are responsible for that.
Also why is Jarvis playing on 3rd line? Why is KK playing? RBA is questionable</div></div>
I’m a pens fan who watched the most depressing PP all season. You can only blame coaching to an extent for that when the players who have a track record of executing the PP aren’t doing it anymore. Your PP was top of the league and then it went to crap. The same players are out there. That has to be on them. If the PP is crap all season and no adjustments are made then get ticked at the coaching. And why wouldn’t KK play? It’s not like he’s some stiff out there like Reaves.

It Could Be 3 to 0 For Carolina
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>I'm not worried about filling in a 3c or a 2c in 3 year.
The whole team will be rebuilding then. I could care less, let them finish dead last that year. Let them use that cap space to take bad player cap dumps in to help build the team.</div></div>
Indeed they will be bad by then… which is exactly why adding a 23 year old C isn’t a big deal. As the cap goes up he isn’t going to be that overpaid. The kid is a solid defensive forward. I don’t think Philip Danault is overrated or really even overpaid. That is the kind of player he can be. It doesn’t mean he deserved to go 3 OA, but it does mean he’s far from a liability.

If you are ranking wingers in this league Mikko is top 5 and Mitch is somewhere between 6-8. It’s not a massive difference. Having said that I agree with everyone here that this never happens.
