i dont think they get all 3 of those high profile FAs, and playing two OFDs in Htson and Montour prob wont work, baut i could see 1 of those 3 FAs signing for sure, and I don't mind the base idea of the kings trade tho I think the pick should increase a round or two

why would the sharks need retention? its pointless. they aren't in cap duress. you guys need skill and shouldnt need to be paid to take someone who benefits your roster... convincing UFAs to sign probably wont be cheap/easy

actually fairly reasonable and benefits both teams, nice job. Buf needs a defensively responsible 3rd liner and PHI needs a dman. Krebs might benefit from Tortz motivation

D List
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Faeyla</b></div><div>Orlov is sort of the gateway we're trying to use to bring Nikishin over as quick as we can. Not to say Orlov has been bad and that's why he's been on the 3rd line, our D core is just that deep.
Pesce for sure priced himself out of here, and there's no guarantee for Skjei to resign.</div></div>
I understand that, but this expensive cap hit is also preventing guentzel, an actual star player, from having room to come back.
I feel like moving orlov to open that gateway, then signing a 2-4m range dman who is slightly lower tier would be far more beneficial to the team. Sure the defense would be far worse, but keeping a star should always be top priority.

worth a try. i feel like EP is struggling mostly because he doesn't have a play driver, it would be risky for the bottom 6, but playing him 649 again is what he needs to get going.

i find it kinda crazy that canes fans would rather hang onto orlov on this contract than move it for nothing, resign guentzel and try and find a cheaper d core option. This makes perfect sense for me (tho i dont think pesce is back), but is constnatly rejected by them.
Im intrigued what blues fans think of moving that faulk contract. he might be worth something with retention, but i agree that his value is not strong at 6.5m

Pettersson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Letsgosharks</b></div><div>I know Peterson is an incredible hockey player and an obvious great center but like man, this is still a serious offer. Patterson however is a little streaky and it is worth noting that. He has his ups and downs and seems to have some serious downs where other players of his caliber don't quite have the spikes he has</div></div>
I won't deny that its a decent offer, but realistically its not something in the realm of possibility. Nobody gives a centerpiece player a long term extension then immediately moves them. Simply put, this whole discussion is trumped by the fact that he is one of the furthest players away from the market on our team.

Philly Special
Farabee is the best player in this deal by a large margin. While I know they are after a top 4 dman, massively handicapping the top 6 to do it is not the plan of attack, much less taking a significant value loss to do it. Krebs is valueless to the Flyers and bringing in 2 dmen isnt realistic.

this is a response that isolates his performance in the moment, not the collective whole. peak pettersson, which we have had most of his tenure, is why we won't make a panic move. I'm not sure what is going on right now but we can't look at a few subsets of bad performance on their own. He's bounced back from this type of stuff before.

i know hes been dog water lately but typically that has pointed to injury problems in the past. there's no rush to move him and certainly not when there's a perceived lower value.

giroux trade is more of a benchmark, decent prospect 1st replacement... or this years lindholm/guentzel trades
or even that old duchene trade.

your best chance to win next year is to keep jake around, signing necas (i think he makes more than is given here) pretty much rules that out, or rules out getting replacement dmen. What is more, these pieces could be easily flipped around the deadline to bring in an extra piece.
The value here is quite noteworthy, I think keeping Guentzel should be top priority

that;s a pretty good return, two former top rounders with solid upside and a replacement defender? All the more if Necas wants a big pay raise and you want to keep Jake. I feel like this is a pretty solid and logical offer. Far from a dump.

ya i dont think you are wrong for seeing that upside, and there's definitely promise there, but the same could be said about the sharks. moving on from a guy they took at 4 this early is something that just about never happens. i just believe the degree of upside in smith is far more likely and has a much higher ceiling, to the point where not just this trade, but any trade, would be rejected.

Would San Jose Consider
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>I think Hutson is the next Quinn Hughes based on the 2 games he played this season. He is an A+ prospect all day. That being said, I respect your opinion and understand how you might feel differently.</div></div>
internal bias and small sample sizes can lead to a lot of opinions, but that doesnt mean that he is on the same level as Smith. There is nothing that is motivating the sharks to make this type of deal. They can grab a dman with pick 14 or use next years pick to fill out that position. I think the likelihood of Smith being a franchise player is significantly higher than Hutson, not by a newhook of seperation.

doesnt seem remotely close.
not denying potential, i know hutson has a lot, but he doesnt feel like the type of dman you center your team around, and if the sharks are going to move their current best prospect it would have to be a face of the franchise type player. Hutson isn't that. Teams don't move 1C caliber guys for strong 2nd pair dmen.
What is more, if the argument is that the sharks need defense, they would have just picked Reinbacher last year.
It should be a easy decision for the sharks to pass on this weak offer.

swap something of surplus for something of need.... a decent bottom six defensive center, something you lack? if anything i feel like i balanced this more towards the leafs.
