Markstrom is a high end goalie, he's going to get a decent package when he's finally traded. It will be FAR more than Ostapchuk + Brannstrom. And that's assuming 25 OA covers taking on Korpisalo, which again is FAR below what it would actually take (2 1sts at minimum).

Are you nuts??? They take that and RUN! Kuzmenko is manageable for 1 year at 3 million, Markstrom is a very good goalie. They get out of Korpisalo's contract, only lose a 1 1st (at 25th OA) and a 3rd liner at best in Ostapchuk. I'm a huge Ostapchuk fan but he will be limited in his skill in the NHL. Brannstrom isn't worth much (mid round pick at best). Just getting out of Korpisalo's contract that's a reasonable cost, let alone getting back a very good goalie and a tap in specialist.

They can talk to players before July 1 and have handshake deals done on extensions. The extension just can't be registered prior to July 1. So they can know if Chychrun would be looking to do an extension or not.

I think the discussion starts and ends with that pick - not wasting time thinking Wallstedt, Faber or Eriksson Ek could be involved and there's not much else that would be of interest to the Sens. The 1st next year is too much of an unknown since I see Staios wanting either a proven NHLer or a top 14 1st this year. If Minnesota won't include 13 this year then the Sens will go to one of 10 other teams who would swap NHLers.

Eiserman would be a good pick, possibly Yakemchuk or Catton if they fall. Getting into that 13 spot is a prime pick this year - someone is going to fall and have a chip on their shoulder.

The contract is the major hang up for sure. Rantanen is going to be at Pastrnak money at least - that 3.5 million extra over Brady makes this a bad deal. Rantanen at 9 with Brady at 8.2 is reasonable, but that's only for this year.

There's no way Greig gets traded.</div></div>
For Andersson he would have to be considered. Sanderson/Andersson would be a very top end d-pair, and he's cost controlled for 2 years. Chychrun for Mangiapane 50% retained is close in value (Chychrun a little more valuable) but I doubt Greig + 2nd alone would get Andersson on it's own. I do think it's fair value, so what's more important - getting a top pair RD or keeping a competitive guy who can play on any line? If this trade opens up the cap enough to sign someone like Chandler Stephenson then as a whole I think that's a positive step forward for the Sens.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Clarky11</b></div><div>I mean, I’m a huge Scott Laughton fan, but this trade heavily favours Philly. I’d obviously do it in a heartbeat.</div></div>
I think there's a HUGE discrepancy in how people view Chychrun - some have him as a borderline top pair anchor, then others see him more as a second pair or a complementary top pair to an elite D. I'm definitely in the latter and really like what Laughton brings for 200ft, and then add a prospect who has a shot as a 3rd pair shutdown guy and I don't see it as a lopsided deal. Now if Philly requires an extension then I'd add either FLA's 1st or CBJ's 2nd rounder.

If you think Batherson=Marner you have some MAJOR homer glasses going on. One guy is 70 points and a defensive liability, the other is 90 point guy with Selke nominations. Norris is pretty much a wash in value, he just has to go for money reasons. It's a late 1st, chances are roughly 50/50 they won't become more than a 4th liner. The 1st or 2nd pick is the premium to trade within division, if they were in the other conference I could see not having one of them in there.

SJ 2024 Trade with OTT to Move Up in Draft for Parekh 2025 Sign Draisaitl Part 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Sens need a top pair RD they won’t trade down</div></div>
Dropping down to 14 is FAR to low. 11/12 maybe if it's a one sided package. But 14 is dropping out of the 2nd/3rd tier of prospects this year.
If SJ is after Parekh so bad and feel the need to jump the Sens then they need to get 8/9/10 in previous deal, then send 9 to the Sens. Do something like 14 + 33 for 9; then 9 + 42 + TB 3rd for 7 + TB 4th.

Yeah I thought the Sens would rather Laughton then a late 1st. Laughton and Grans for Chychrun seems like the type of trade that will happen.

Summer of Non Dorion
I don't like the Korpisalo buyout - couple tweaks and it's not needed. Ostapchuk should be in the AHL (1.8 million cap space left). Remove Korpisalo buyout (2.1 million left). Trade Forsberg wherever, can even retain 750k (4 million left, enough to fit Korpisalo). The difference between Forsberg and Korpisalo isn't enough to justify a 8 year buyout dead cap.
Also don't think Jensen should be the D we target from Washington - I'd be looking at TVR who is a lower cap hit and lower pick. But either one would be an improvement for sure on the status quo.

May want to go check Moneypucks D pair combos - the best pair by advanced stats was Sanderson-Chychrun. Not Sanderson Zub. Zub is replaceable, he's not a stud #1 D. This trade also brings in a serviceable 3rd pair D in Lillegren who would pair up well with Kleven. So it only leaves a hole on the 2nd pair - which can be filled with any of 6-10 guys from free agency to pair with Chabot.
And at this point I'll take disappearing in the playoffs (but is a PPG over the last 3 years of playoffs really ghosting?) because that means the Sens make the playoffs.

Why all the buyouts with 5 million in cap space? Just bury Forsberg and Kastelic (or trade them for mid round picks), and keep Hamonic as an 8th D for 800k extra. Then there's no carry over buyouts to the year after.

You're kidding, right???? That's pennies on the dollar for Marner - he's a 90 pt winger that's elite defensively. You take this trade and figure out the rest with moving Chychrun and Norris after it's so lopsided. Heck even keep Chychrun and pair him with Sanderson - those 2 together in 141 minutes were 9% better xGoals % better than Sanderson-Zub.

18 is below the drop off in this draft, it's not a very valuable pick. For the Sens it would take 18 + for either Chychrun and Norris; let alone both.

You highlight the problem though - where does Norris fit? Paying 8 million for a guy to be a 3rd liner and maybe a PP specialist is a bit much.
But maybe this deal could be expanded to include Norris - it would eat the cap space to sign Tarasenko but they're essentially the same player, but Norris is better in his own zone and faceoffs. Sens retain 2.3 million on Chychrun, flyers send back their 1st this year for Norris? Lower Zamula's contract a bit and the team still fits under the cap as is.
