(NJD/SJS) - Vanecek, 2025 7th (NJD) for Kähkönen
well, Sharks team owner Hasso Plattner does look a bit like Ralph Bellamy from Trading Places (though a bit more like how he looked in his homeless form in Coming to America)

(COL/NJD) - MacDermid for Bardakov, 2024 7th (NSH)
this presumably opens up a roster spot for an incoming player (or 2) for the Avalanche. another trade coming, obviously.

(MTL/WPG) - Monahan for 2024 1st (WPG), 2027 3rd (WPG)
both Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros 'technically' garnered 5 1st round picks in trades. the Gretzky trade involved 3 1sts directly.
Gretzky (along with Krushelnyski and McSorley) netted 3 1sts (89~ #18 Jason Miller, 91~ #20 Martin Rucinsky and 93~ #16 Nick Stajduhar) plus former first round picks Jimmy Carson (86, #2) and Martin Gelinas (88, #7) and $15M from LA in 1988.
Gretzky also returned a 1st to LA when he was traded to STL in 1996 (97~ #15 Matt Zultek)
the Eric Lindros haul from Philadelphia brought Quebec 2 1sts (93~ #10 Jocelyn Thibault and 94~ #10 Nolan Baumgartner) plus 3 former 1st rounders in Peter Forsberg (91, #6), Kerry Huffman (86, #6) and Mike Ricci (90, #4), plus Ron Hextall and Steve Duchesne and $15M in cash in 1992.

yeah, but what a journey it took to get back home...

(VAN/NYI) - Horvat for Beauvillier, Räty, conditional 1st
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worldwidesensei</b></div><div>BUF would never do that. Horvat isn't a need. JJP is a unicorn and Levi is considered the #1 G prospect. That's a lot to give up for a rental. Glad BUF didn't do that trade.</div></div>
yeah, that's pretty much what :P means...
the point i was kind of making is that after trading away (after wasting, 4 pro games sitting on the taxi squad at 21, critical time for a developing goalie) Mikey DiPietro, the Canucks have zero goaltending depth, Arturs Silovs is literally all they have in the pipe now.
they could really -use- a top goalie prospect, and now.

of teams trying to get back into the playoffs, I kinda felt Buf would've been a better fit, and they have a ton of cap if they do want to sign him. (protected 1st, JJ Peterka (and flip him to Ott) and Devon Levi :P)

ummmm... they can still trade him to 19 teams (31 if they trade him now), and he has term now for a team which might want him...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ThirdPeriodCringe</b></div><div>Good from Huby's perspective that he signed cause he wouldn't be getting that contract going into the season and running a risk of getting injured. 30 players, 38 times. (this includes (5) players who were 29 to start the season, but turned 30 during)
the most recent was Stamkos this year @ 31yo (turned 32 before seasons end)
the oldest was Gordie Howe, in the 68-69 season @ 40yo. (5 total were 35+, including Howe and Joe Sakic (37))

Thread:
Carolina Hurricanes signed Ethan Bear (1 Year / $2,200,000 AAV)
why would Ethan Bear worry about a mere $200K?
well... the current level of escrow in the NHL is 17.2%, so he'll actually only get paid about $1,821,600 (what actually gets returned to him at the end of the year remains to be seen)
assuming for a moment that he will be subject to US Federal tax and NC state tax (if he were subjected to Canadian taxes, they'd likely be higher or at least as much, anyways)
he'll be subject to the highest tax bracket at the federal level (37% on any amount over $539,901+, and about an average of 22.5% on the rest) or roughly $595,705, leaving $1,225,895
he'd also be subject to NC state tax (5.5%) of about $100,200, leaving a net of approx. $1,125,695.
and that is of course before he pays out any actual living and travel costs.
so yeah... probably worried about that $200K... (since it thus represents 17.76% (oh the irony, USofA) of his net...)
especially as the Govt is taking nearly half of it right off the top...
