Perhaps you can get the first and fourth from a different team. The Avs don’t need Ullmark.
Not a lot of goalies return a first but it’s not out of the realm.

Agreed then. Add a second and remove Nathan and we can probably have a deal. Unless you have a cheap 3rd line center you want to get rid of.

The value isn’t there for Colorado. We aren’t dumping salary in this deal we are giving up good players for peanuts. It would be different if we weren’t taking any salary back and the FO had a plan but Marino for Manson is horrible.

Ok. Just for clarification When Rantanen needs to be resigned the difference in his salary over what he makes now isn’t massive. It’s not like he is currently getting paid peanuts it’s going to be an increase of around 2-3m. Assuming the cap goes up again that’s not going to be an issue. Replacing Nuke will be.

Yeah that a big no from Colorado. Too much of an over payment and we don’t need either player. Perhaps at the trade deadline next year we might have interest in savard but not for a first.

Possibility - Val seeks help in Russia
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>:tearsofjoy
On a serious note my thinking was if Nuke says he'll only waive his NMC to go home he'd still have to pass through waivers as that's the mechanism BUT there would really be no reason for anyone to take him off waivers if the NMC (or the waiving of it) supersedes the waivers, as all they'd be doing would be claiming a guy who might never come back. Maybe Vegas would if it presents a new way to circumvent the cap for them just for the novelty lol.</div></div>
I believe that the waiving of the NMC for this a particular purpose would include an acknowledgment of the risk of being claimed and a willingness to accept the risk. It would be a convoluted legal nightmare otherwise but I’m not a lawyer for the NHL… or am I? I can attest to the fact that I have never passed the bar… without getting at least one drink.
Additionally the players association might be able to challenge being picked via waivers after the fact.

Personally I'd love to see him get clean and healed and return to the Avs but I don't see how the latter part of that, at least, happens.</div></div>
Amen to that brother. I think he would have to have the mother of all apologies for the team and perhaps buy them all wasted Russian prostitutes. I kid about the prostitutes. Perhaps they would prefer AK47s?

Possibility - Val seeks help in Russia
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>Waivers first.
Edit: The only possible way around that I can think of would be if it could be considered a 'conditioning assignment' in which case I don't think a player has to pass through waivers but not sure off the top of my head if there isn't a time frame limit on that.</div></div>
As far as I’m aware conditioning is limited to 3-5 games skaters vs goalies.
I think you make a great case with waivers… however how many teams are going to take a chance on a 6m x 5year player who can’t stay out of the player assistance program? My assumption was that even if he had to pass through waivers in November no one would take that risk.
Additionally if someone claimed him it would have the same result. Ie not on the Avs payroll.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swissmontana</b></div><div> if you can loan a player like this….and if the cap doesn't count against you. </div></div>
According to the snippet of the cba I read it is only the base salary that can be removed in the case of a player being loaned. However as all of Nuke’s AAV is base salary for next season I don’t see why it can’t happen. Loans happen every season however they tend to be younger players. Perhaps there is a difference between elc and normal contracts or an age limit?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>In theory he could be loaned anywhere but he would have to pass through waivers to do it.</div></div>
I don’t believe that is the case. Kovalenko was signed to a contract prior to the season and then loaned to his KHL team. This made him eligible to play in the playoffs for the Avs and he didn’t have to pass through waivers. (However he may have been waiver exempt).
The o’Reilly offer sheet from Calgary when he was playing in the KHL meant that if the Avs hadn’t matched it he would have to pass through waivers. Because he ultimately signed with a team that owned his rights he didn’t have to pass through waivers despite playing 10+ games overseas without a contract.

Is a Swap Possible
My personal preference is to loan Nichushkin to a khl team for the regular season. So he can get help in Russia and if he follows the rules and stays clean he can come back and play in the playoffs. His entire AAV is salary so it’s my understanding the Avs would be able to spend the whole amount on replacement players.

Dallas won the series in games 3&4 with their dominant performances. There was no effective in game adjustment. Games 5&6 felt much more even playoff hockey where one mistake could win or lose the game.

It’s not really. When they play their best hockey they play a very aggressive high pressure defensive game with their speed that forces quick turnovers and even quicker transition to offense. However it’s a high risk scheme and like any scheme is not full proof. The match up against Dallas was not good given their ability to play a heavy game behind our net. Putting heavier pressure on our more mobile defenders. It was a great game plan by Dallas and Bednar’s biggest weakness is his inability to adjust when his plan falls that and over playing is top lines.

Also Val won’t be hidden in the ahl if he can play he will. He needs time to get his sh*t together and accept he has a problem… which he doesn’t appear to be doing but I know nothing about his personal life. I hope he takes enough time to recover… see you in the playoffs Val. 6months is just the minimum.

Oh no the sky is falling, everyone hide in your bunker with your MREs.
We will be a good team again next year. Sammy G isn’t the problem he is just a convenient target for the size queens. Although Dallas was able to go to work behind the net it was against all our defensive pairs and more noticeably our top pair. We aren’t changing either of them so we just need to scheme for it.
I’d trade Colton first as he was not able to center a true shutdown line and doesn’t bring enough offense to play on the second line. He could be a luxury we just can’t afford.

Point a game players aren’t cheap but availability is the most important ability. He needs to get his head straight. Perhaps a year in the khl and a return for the playoffs would help him reset.

But let’s play, McDavid for Rantanen, Mittlestadt and hell 2 1st and Ritchie is a massive haul but probably in the right ball park. That leaves Toews and Nurse and Nurse sucks. But MacKinnon and McDavid as your top 2 centers would be crazy.</div></div>
McDavid would make an awesome 2c 😀 and he wouldn’t have to go up against McKinnon and Makar who can shut him down.
Rantanen mittlestadt a 1st should be more than enough. We don’t want nurse he would be a negative in the trade.

No from the Avs. I like MANGIAPANE and Sharangovich a lot but not going to give up Richie for either or both. Also we don’t have the cap space.
You should trade mangiapane out east so he can play against panarin. Bread vs bread eater would be quite the battle.
