If we were to divest ourselves from such a high pick, I think we would want at least one better asset back … either a pick in 13-20 range, or a more reliable option for our lineup.
(Or Guhle)</div></div>
thats fair and I think the habs could probably trade up to a higher pick first maybe in the 16 to 18 range and then trade up to 10, guhle is not on the table tho lol

Well the reason you cant do it most times is because the teams with top 10 picks are bad and need that pick but nj just had some really bad luck this season with injuries and goaltending if you look back at the 2022 draft the habs traded alexander romanov and the 98th pick to the isles for the 13th overall pick and romanov that year had a worse year than jordan harris this season and you still get a first round pick plus 2 seconds and a third and I think its a more than fair trade I mean teams get really good middle six guys with second and third round picks all the time which is something nj could really use

Well thats why I added jordan harris to this trade I would be willing to move a different dman like jayden struble instead but harris plays both sides, has some offensive upside and was only a -5 on a really bad habs team, hes a smart player who doesnt take a lot of risks and would be a really good 6th defenseman for nj

Thats not even close to equal value though considering the habs will still be in the lottery next year so youd want the habs 2025 first winnipegs first this year 2 seconds and a third for the 10th overall pick thats insane

The Canadians are in a much different situation then the devils they are still in the middle of their rebuild while the devils are looking to compete. whoever the devils draft is going to have to get paid after their entry level deal and they are still gonna have to pay luke hughes, dawson mercer, and alexander holtz not to mention all the guys they already have signed for 8 years so theyll have to trade someone, with this trade the devils keep their system full with all these extra picks and they get a cheap reliable bottom 6 D who can play both sides in jordan harris

They might but the devils already have a lot of top talent and there isnt any more room in the top 4 on defense or in the top 6 on offense. They have also traded away many of their picks already so thus would be a good way to recoup them plus most top teams in the league have a steady flow of guys coming from their system to play bottom 6 roles and this trade could help the devils keep their system stocked once in their contending window

Bad teams do make bad trades and no the return is not attractive but there have also never been rumors about caufield getting traded zegras on the other hand has had plenty of rumors and if Anaheim wants to trade him there must be reason so that will lower his value if you look at the pld trade from last year LA gave way too much even with everything surrounding him and it came back to bite them so if zegras is on the market Id be willing to make a trade for him but im not going to overpay

Im actually not happy about getting rid of our 2025 first I think its a risky move considering our teams injury history, the fact that we have been bottom 5 for the last 3 season and since zegras had a horrible season then adding the other assets on top makes it even more risky

So you dont think the habs 2025 first and second with no protections winnipegs first and the habs third this year with some other decent prospects could be impactful barron and farrell are still very young with lots of time to develop those picks could be high next year if the habs dont significantly improve and anderson could bounce back with Anaheim since he'll fit their system much better

Anderson can certainly bounce back he just doesn't fit the habs style which is why he struggled and hes there to make the money work barron has shown flashes of being a good dman and farrell could be flipped but in this situation if Anaheim doesnt believe that the habs will improve they could essentially get a high first two late firsts and a second on top of the other prospects added here and if anderson has a bounce back season he could also be flipped for assets but if not he only has three years left which will be up at the start of Anaheims contention window

yes but who could you possibly move to make cap space and who will you call up. Any move made where you move multiple pieces with cap hits above league min will possibly fill one hole but just create another

Savard is not a lateral move he has been known as a good stay at home defenseman and is having a career year despite how bad the habs have been meanwhile ceci is maybe slightly better than he has been in the past but he is playing on a team that has a chance at good playoff run you just admitted that he is barely above 50% is below team average and is the spot you need an upgrade the most

You're basing your argument around Ceci's play 5 years ago as well, since Pittsburgh he has been a lot better and matured into his game.
Savard isn't what most fans would hope the Oilers go for, he's ok but about the same as Ceci, no real reason to make a move there.</div></div>
Your best assets are late firsts and a prospect that have middle six potential and in terms of cap the team you trade with would need to retain 50% just to have a hope of making anything work

We may want Allen but tbh Pickards been great, until he starts playing poorly as our backup I don't see a reason in changing that.
If we're going to move 2 firsts and a prospect we'll be trying to get a substantial upgrade on Ceci.</div></div>
Edmonton doesnt have the cap space or assets to make a trade for a massive upgrade on ceci but savard is definitely an upgrade on ceci he is a former cup winner, hes better defensively, has a significantly higher ppg and is having a career year

I dont give nurse the full credit I think edmonton has been a poor defensive team for years now and have not addressed it in a substantial way. edmonton wins by outscoring their opponents in spite of their defense and goaltending

How in the world is ceci worth a 2nd he has 13 points in 45 games and is poor defensively not to mention hes making 3.25 mil for the next two seasons and desharnais is basically worth nothing. I agree with what you said about kovacevic being worth a 2nd or a third and I think allen is worth a second but hes retained at 50% for 2 years which increases his value a lot and id say savard is worth a second and a third especially for a poor defensive team like edmonton who is looking to make a run. that means montreal would be trading what is effectively a first, 2 seconds and 2 thirds for a prospect whos probably worth about a third, ceci who I still believe has negative value and two late firsts
