<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CameronSquires</b></div><div>When do y'all think the first contract/extension will be?
Last season one contract was signed (May 15th - Vyacheslav Peksa)
and two extensions (June 28th - David Kampf & Pontus Holmberg)
Expiring reserve list players:
Brandon Lisowsky - Expires June 1
Veeti Miettinen - Expires Aug 15
Mike Koster - Expires Aug 15
Players who could get a contract before July 1:
UFAs:
Max Domi (C,RW) - **
Tyler Bertuzzi (LW, RW) - *
TJ Brodie (LD/RD) - x
Joel Edmundson (LD/RD) - *
Mark Giordano (LD) - x
Ilya Lyubushkin (RD)
Martin Jones (G) - *
Ilya Samsonov (G) - x
John Klingberg (RD) - x
Matt Murray (G) - x
Kyle Clifford (LW)
Dylan Gambrell (C)

Maxime Lajoie (LW) (ARB)
Keith Petruzzelli (G) (ARB)
* - Strong case to come back
** - Likely coming back
*** - Almost guaranteed
x - Almost guaranteed not coming back
So, when will the first move happen? What/who will it be?</div></div>
My guess is Domi. The only UFA I want to return is Domi. The only RFA I want to return is Dewar. Trade Liljegren for a pick and Robertson for another RD (preferably one a little more physical and defensively reliable, ala Korczak). I really just don't see Robby and Lili being apart of Trelivings plans, ESPECIALLY Liljegren. Seems like he is all but gone. I liked Edmundson, but I guarantee adding more offense from the blueline will be the biggest priority. I don't think they want anymore lefties playing right. Montour will probably be our biggest target. Roy and Pesce will be close seconds.
This team should be extremely different next season. I doubt very many people are coming back

The last few games by Domi were unreal but I don't see that sustainable by him.
Probably just felt it, we saw the real Domi most of the year.
He was overall better than I thought he would be fine.
Still to me sweetheart deal is only way he's back.

I doubt he gets inked. No real room for another small scoring winger. He'll definitely get a contract eventually though, he's a genuinely solid player who could make some noise in some other system

I think he's getting an AHL deal with the Marlies
They have done similar with other guys and its worked

C'mon guys lets be fair. Start posting trades for the other 190 upcoming UFAs.</div></div>
Must say im really amazed you are still losing time with TML homers on this site, trying to talk them into sense.....
You should defenitely know by now 97% of them learned hockey from NHL 2019 , alas their reactions after every playoff loss and their trades , where rest 31 Teams are in League only to catter TML

The silliness of Marner trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fangm</b></div><div>Trading Marner at this stage feels more like a statement/attempted culture shift than a hockey move.
It seems like the Leafs are saying that things won't be the same moving forward. The reality is that almost any Marner deal makes them immediately worse. But even if they move him for a bunch of picks, at this point if they signed Zadarov for $5.5M and Tanev for $5.5M and that was your "return" most Leafs fans would take it.</div></div>
Agree with you. Gotta think the biggest shift will be 25/26 will be Marner (who isn't traded) and Tavares 22m comes off the books. Admitting the Leafs will have RFAs that should deserve raises......Woll, Holmberg and Knies. Be fun to be a Leaf GM to fill out the roster. For the first time in forever...the Leafs might have four inexpensive rookies making the team....Minten, Cowan, Webber, Niemela making the team which is helps the cap too, but maybe I'm being too optimistic.

I take limited sample sizes like that with a grain of salt
The main thing of bringing him back was through the remaining half of the season when he was on Matthews wing he was good

His lack defensive play worries me too much.
Bertuzzi I want back more than him, will be hard without moving Marner.</div></div>
He lacks defense but makes up for it with playmaking. Bertuzzi is more of a net front guy and actually of the two Domi makes more sense as look at those passes he was feeding to Matthews. Lot of good wings like Bertuzzi in FA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>His NMC is the problem.</div></div>
In which CJ's reported he's interested in waiving...
List of teams that make sense IMO:
Utah (He's the superstar and the big name coming into a new city to the NHL. They also can pay him and give him the C if wanted)
Vegas (It's Vegas)
Edmonton (Marner's good buddies with Hyman, Campbell Ceci, via wedding, + Holland has a way with former Leafs)
Calgary (Marner's friends with Kadri and comes in to be the saviour)
Dallas (Cup contender for multiple years)
Colorado (Same as Dallas)
Florida (Same as the previous 2 with the bonus of great weather and is protected)
Tampa (Same with Florida but not as strong Cup Contender)
Pittsburgh (Relationship with Dubas and has a chance to play with 1 of his 2 favourite players: Crosby)
Ottawa (Still close to home and would be looked at as the hero if he managed to pull them to the playoffs)
Buffalo (Same as OTT but even more-so with how bad the Bills are in the playoffs)
Montreal (Good, young core where he'll get line 1 and be the guy)
Los Angeles (Good weather and a team close to a ring)
Anaheim (MTL but good weather but farther from home)
Chicago (Bedard, need I say more? And it was the other team his other favourite player played for; Patty Kane)
San Jose (Chance to play with Will Smith and Celebrini)
That's 16 teams that I can see him waiving for, not including NSH with ROR and Schenn, WSH with Ovi and Sandin, etc.

Tampa's 2025 2nd round pick
#213 overall pick
for
Phillippe Myers
Grant Mismash
Edmonton's 2024 4th round pick

Sounds like wishful thinking to me.
DeMelo is a big RD right in his prime.
I'm sure he loves playing for the Jets but he's going to be trying to cash in on a retirement deal this summer.
Top 4D always get paid in UFA.
Ben Chiarot got 4.75 mil and Justin Holl got 3.2!
They're not even top 4D! 😬
Matt Roy will be getting the Brinks Truck as well for the same reasons as DeMelo.
Edit: You edited Roy ok.

Leafs Rumours
The odds of a team trading for a large contract at the draft or prior to most of the large UFAs signing is very slim.
Why? Well as nice as it is to map out all of these extra signings you can do with the cap space, other teams are exploring those options and going hey we can probably address our needs with our cap space instead of having to trade a core piece and future assets to bring a guy in.
I’ll give you that Marner is likely a bit of an exception given the caliber of player he is. But with that, teams likely are wary of what that players production would be A. In a different system and B. Without the caliber of forward talent the player is currently surrounded by.
This doesn’t factor in either that Marner pretty much holds all of the chips in his hand with the NMC, and with it taking him right to UFA, he can pretty much decide where he’d go.
The one benefit for you in this hypothetical is there is a hypothetical where Saros is expendable. I’m not sure if Marner would re-sign in Nashville though with them banking on rookie goaltending with a lesser roster than the team he came from doing the same with a better roster.

Not likely that Treliving pays Matt Roy 6.25M. Something in the 4.25-5Mx4 range is more reasonable, same for DeMelo. Bertuzzi would need at least 4-years probably (5.75MX3 is under 20M). I think he was looking for 6-6.5Mx6 last year, so I would imagine for him to sign, he'll need a 25-30M contract this year. He might take the deal that you proposed if he thinks he can get a bigger payday at 32.
