Reilly is not worth an unprotected first.

I'm on the fence about trading up. The pool is so muddy and prospects are rising and falling so arbitrarily right now, I feel like there's a chance that what we want might still be there at 14 and we'll miss out on someone else good that inexplicably dropped to 33. Trading up seems great if we can get into 7 or 8. Otherwise, 14 after already getting 1 is something we should just go with.

Why is a rebuilding. Team paying an unprotected 1st for a 30 year old who will not be with the team when they are competing? This is just off

Yeah. The 1st should have been lottery protected. I figured Vegas wouldn't fall that far.

My thinking was like this: The Sharks need a true P1 D. Won't be able to outbid better teams for Montour. Nothing in the pipeline. Surer bet to trade for a P1 than to draft one. Toronto may be looking to move Rielly relatively cheaply this summer. Vegas 1st is more likely #25+. Rielly might still be good when the Sharks are coming out of their rebuild. Or the Sharks could flip him. Reilly as a stopgap until the D we draft at #10 is ready to take over.

I 100% agree with you and tbh I have kind of changed my opinion on what we should do this offseason. My original opinion was just like yeah let's keep ranking and keep developing the prospect pool, but look how far that's gotten buffalo over the last 10 years. This is the bottoming out year, imo we should definitely make some moves this summer, like bring in a 1 dman. I would grab an RD and still run with the left side of Ferraro - Muk - Thrun,

Your original comment was probably correct: At this point in the rebuild the Sharks should be trying to acquire picks, not trade them away. Especially picks in the first 3 rounds. Maybe we don't really need a P1 D yet. Just tank along until our prospects develop. Or trade for a P1D later when we're closer to contention. In the meantime sign a couple P2D UFA's so the Sharks aren't putrid and a bad environment to develop prospects in. I got interested in the idea that Toronto or other disappointed early round playoff exit teams might trade away decent D for cheap. But we can do that in a few years. Jumped the gun. Time to focus on improving the D through the draft and UFA's.

Yeah, I have mixed opinions. I really want to the youth to develop in a healthy culture. I say don’t be overly aggressive, but if a deal that makes sense falls into our lap I say we do it. A happy medium

Obviously don’t trade firsts, but I’m not against shopping for a young RD with #1 or 2 potential
