SJOffseason

Created by: jpersam
Team: 2024-25 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: May 8, 2024
Published: May 10, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sharks use ample cap space to eat some undesirable contracts and improve their trade position and acquire more picks in the process.

If Couture isn't ready for the season, Kunin moves over to 4C and Bailey slots in at RW, and MacDonald gets called up.

Celebrini and Smith decide to stay in Boston for one more year, and then they all come aboard for the 2025-26 season (hopefully with James Hagens or Logan Hensler also on the way).

Blackwoods better to SJS then a 4th

He also could be flipped for more if he has another good year for a better return

I feel like there is no way celebrini doesnt come out. Grier has been pushing for smitty to come out and there is a reason Macklin won the hobey.

would you take Anton Forsberg back in the Blackwood deal.

To OTT: Blackwood
To SJS: Forsberg, 2025 3rd round pick

???

I sort of agree with you, but after the return Grier got for Kahkonen at the deadline from a desperate NJ team, I'm skeptical of getting a solid return for the goaltending. Can be a 3rd if OTT sneaks into the playoffs.

You're probably right, and I'm certainly rooting for that too because woof some of the games this year were a mess. Small part of me doesn't mind waiting a year and getting some of the expiring contracts/guys not a part of the future off the books.

I guess I wouldn't be opposed, Campbell could in theory be stashed down with the Barracuda. I still would want a guy like Romanov to be the first goalie up from the AHL.

Somebody tried that in an earlier roster. That's just ...no.

While it's extremely rare for a 1st overall to not come straight to the NHL, its not out of the question for a guy who will be 2 weeks past his 18th on draft day. I'm still at about 90% he comes to get paid. But its not a lock.

I hadn't heard Grier was "pushing for smitty...". I have heard him say "he's NHL ready". I think Smith goes where MC goes.

honestly I feel like you're doing the Oilers a huge favor there. You're taking on $8.25M next season and two more years of $5M and you're getting a likely mid-20s pick next year plus the equivalent of a mid-5th rounder (moving up from mid-4th to mid-3rd next year) - I feel like you could've taken a pound of flesh and settled for a quarter pounder instead, ya know?

I guess that's fair. Essentially the trade is Ceci and a 3rd for a 4th, and then Campbell and a 1st for nothing. I felt like both of those by themselves were fair deals, or at least similar to what other people were posting, but together I guess it may not look like enough.
