Sell out now and go for it. Yager is Pittsburghs best prospect but hes not a franchise defining player. That top 9 is lethal. Skinner is a 100 point player next to Crosby and Rosen is a better prospect than Yager, who you just complained about trading away, who is NHL ready now</div></div>
PIT could have said this to BUF for years.
Your top prospects aren't going to help you win, you're a decade away from being a contender.... Just give them to use for almost nothing!
I'm sure it would have went over really well with BUF fans..... FFS the arrogance.

it is an impossible sell to get PIT to take on yet another struggling 5 mil winger.
Just not going to happen. No one in the organization will tolerate that move.
They should have never signed him. He was never the same after the tendon injury.

they are set on the R side, Letang, EK, Ivany.
They won't be looking for defense at all unless they don't resign POJ.... which sadly they will.
Even if they didn't, why would they pay a pick for a guy when they will hit FA and get a cheaper better option for a LD.

Exploring Darnell Nurse buyout
I think the value is fair, but PIT won't do that.
Instead we'll get stuck with yet another year of garbage play from a guy who has no business on the team in POJ.
I keep hoping Dubas just casts him out and doesn't resign him. They could do so much better in FA. It's not like they are up against the cap.

his contract isn't that bad, it's 850k x 2 buried if they buried him right now. That isn't anything significant.
He's a very solid 4th liner. Good PKer at a very low cost. You over here going on like he's some burden to the team....

not nearly enough to do this.
That nurse contract alone is worth atleast 2 1st round picks.
Campbell another.
EDM doesn't have the assets to get this done. Nor do they want to spend them.

The only straw man here is you.
I clearly said I don't get what the fuss was about. As people here going on and on.
without that franchise level guy, they don't have anything yet that makes them a true contender. So why the fuss.
Keep tanking. Nothing to get excited about yet.

You don't need a generational talent to win a cup. Look at LA 2012 & 14. Look at the four teams remaining, only Edmonton has a player of the caliber that you're talking about. You might as well just tell every team that's not Edmonton, Chicago, or Colorado to stop trying because according to you, if you don't have a top 5 player in the league you have no chance at a cup.
Do you think Smith is going to take this team from 32 to a bubble team? No they're still rebuilding. Also Smith has said that he's willing to play in the AHL if that's what's best for his development.
You have genuinely no clue about this sport</div></div>
He has not graded out on par with Matthews and Hughe.
There is no point in talking with someone who makes crap up as they go.

you clearly didn't read.
all odds show you need a franchise level player to be a real contender, they don't have one. Keep losing, keep drafting high, or you'll be a muddling team.
How hard is that to understand.
Why make it hard on yourself? You are at the bottom of the league, stay there, tank, get the player you need. Then worry about winning.

Age doesn't always mean that skating is gone.
If you look at Saad's career he's been about consistent as they come.
There wouldn't be a dump cost to Saad, it's a short term, very low risk pretty market value deal for a guy with his production. It's a much lower risk contract than Acciari is given his playstyle.</div></div>
he's 32 this season.
He's not the player he use to be. He use to be a guy hard to play against known more for his defensive game but having offensive upside. That part of his game is going going gone.
Like I said, a few years ago, I would have acquired him. now, now no thanks.
Acciari's contract isn't an issue. At most he costs 800k or so against the cap if he's buried. Saad on the other hand is a 4.5 mil cap hit.
I'd much rather have Acciari's contract than Saad's

you can get more for Savard than a 5th.
It won't be from PIT, because they most likely won't be in the playoffs, but a contender looking for defense or depth would probably give you a 2nd for him if not a 1st.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_Habs_fan</b></div><div>Celebrini arguably is a generational talent, Smith and Eklund both look like future elite players</div></div>
Celebrini is one of the lowest level 1OA in years. Many scouts have pointed that out. This is not a great draft.
He graded out lower than Bedard in CHI, and Beniers in SEA who was 2OA and is graded out as a 1st liner not franchise level talent.
He's also already graded lower than the next two years 1OA who are already known.
I don't really know how else to break that down for you. He's not that guy. Not saying he's not going to be a decent player. High possibility he is.
But he's not that guy.
You can be mad about it all you want, I just don't get the joy of heading a team dead set into mediocrity. They are already at the bottom.... keep tanking... that should be the goal. Not playing the youth. **** sit them in the AHL if you have to. Keep tanking.

San Jose Sharks signed Will Smith (3 Years / $4,150,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyScotty</b></div><div>You have strong opinions about it clearly but I'm just asking for clarification.
All it sounds like to a 3rd party (I'm not a Sharks fan) is:
" Sharks fans are idiots for listening to all the hype about their young players and getting irrationally excuberant because everyone in the media is not a qualified analyst/idiot and instead should be listening to me because I said so: even though I've provided no reasoning for my opinion"</div></div>
I've provided plenty of reasoning.
Nothing there says franchise level player.. your odds of winning a cup without one are low.
In the last 10 years it's a 30% of those winners didn't have one.... some say Eichel on VGK played like one so could be 20%. But I don't buy that as I don't view Eichel as a FP and neither do most other people.
Point clearly made, is rushing a team into mediocrity isn't helping the team. People way to excited to run into mediocrity....aka like LA fans. They should be trying to stay on the bottom right now. Not bringing in every good young talent at a young age. Which will prevent them from finishing 1OA again.
Go ask LA fans now what they think, and most of them realize they are stuck in the middle now. Which is the worst place to be.
Fact is next year and the year after have much better high end talent in the draft. 26 has a generational level player in it..... they real plan is keep losing.
