Description
Pospisil is proving to be an absolute menace for Slovakia at the WC, and playing very well at Center no less. It's a very small sample size, but this could be a hidden gem acquisition, even if the cost seems high for what he's proven at the NHL level, MTL can afford to throw extra assets at targets they've identified. Pospisil seems like a solid realistic target. He's already 24 and CGY should be ok getting a bunch of assets for their rebuild. He'll still be and RFA at the end of his deal, so it's not like MTL risk losing him for nothing at the end of his contract. Also, Pospisil seems to get Slafkovsky fired up lol (could just be playing for your country in a playoff type environment), still might be something worth exploring.

Next is signing UFA Dakota Joshua. Habs fans agree it would make sense to go out and get another winger. Most targets have been like Toffoli, Marchessault, bringing back Monahan, etc. But taking a chance on a playoff performer like Joshua could prove a smart move if MTL intend to start competing (at least for a playoff spot). I've done different threads trying to go out and acquire Lawson Crouse, but being able to get Joshua would be a great alternative (without having to give up assets too).

Both acquisitions don't prevent MTL from still going out a making a splash either, now or in the future.

Nope, like I said not available. Either meet my unreasonable ask or stop asking. Flames literally just extended him for 2 years at 1M and he played a huge part in Kadri's early season resurgence

That career journeyman had 18 goals in 63games + 7pts in 9 playoff games while being a physical specimen... you won't be able to sign him for less lol

Hmmmm interesting. That's a lot of push back (at what I'd consider pretty strong overpayments for all 3 offers I made) for someone many don't see being more than a 3rd liner at best, and already 24 years old.... Perhaps I nailed it with calling him a "hidden gem"?

Maybe. But it's really as simple as we just extended him and and want to see how he does in year 2. He has a pretty big concussion history so it's high risk high reward. He reminds me a lot of Ferland when he entered the league.

Did not know that.... That definitely has me second guessing targeting him... at least at a high price anyway. He has been fun to watch at the WC with Slafkovsky though!

And he's playing great at the Worlds right now too. He's the biggest reason why Slovakia beat the US.

Nemec is the reason they beat the US… and Slafkovsky has been the best overall player (so far) for the team… but yes Pospisil has been great, but it’s more the fact that he’s been a super pest, hits everything that moves, and is chipping in on offence, but he’s been very much the beneficiary of Slafkovsky and Nemec’s plays, since he’s always parked in front of the net.

Exactly. Thanks for proving my point. Armia had a good turn around season (compared to how he started). Add when he was doing well in the playoffs (but not as good as Joshua currently is doing), no one had an issue with his salary… so if Joshua is playing at a similar (but better) level, how is the contract I’m suggesting an overpayment? Especially considering the cap is going up.
