Detroit would be a team that I think Tavares would waive for. With Tavares only owed $0.91 MIL in actual salary there could get a bottom feeder team with lots of cap space to proabably take 50% of the Cap hit for a 5th pick

Detroit ain't in a position to take Tavares for anything more than half retention, and at that point, they ain't in a position to pay what the Leafs would want for half retention lol.

Ya if can't trade Maatta, could buy him out too, that is if the youngsters are the better option on LD.

Hawks actually need to get to the cap floor so think they would keep both

Not by the end of free agency, they will easily hit the floor.

I don't think they will be signing many big free agents, maybe one

You're trying to reason with a guy that wanted to trade Lucas Raymond for Tanner Jeannot and sign 36 year old Kane to a 7 year deal because "It brings down the AAV".

I'm really not trying to feed the "it's possible to trade Tavares BEAST" but I was thinking that a 3rd team would probably take 50% retention for $5.5 MIL of a Cap Hit but only $0.455 in salary for a 4th or 5th Detroit pick. Easy way for a rebuilding team to add a draft pick and extremely cheap for the pocket book.

Detroit gets an elite faceoff man who will probably score 30 goals and the Leafs get some depth pieces and $11 MIL of Cap Space back. Oh no! I am feeding the "trade BEAST"

If Tavares would waive I agree they'd give him away for a small price just to get that cap back and make some changes to the line up. If you could get him retained for like 4 million for something like a 2nd rounder and a blah prospect I'd sure do it.

Full $5.5M in cap all year probably costs more than a 4th/5th pick.

And again, Detroit ain't good enough to be paying assets for a 34 year old rental.

Hawks would take it for the pick for sure. Like some fans have said worse case they can buyout someone or they can always retain and trade them.
What I don’t get is why trade for markstrom when you have cossa waiting in the wings, it’s a lot to give up for 2 years

He's not a Wing fan. No other Detroit fan is clamoring to trade for Markstrom, as the team is exiting a rebuild and starting to compete, not constructed to go on runs and win now.

I dont think the wings are ready to go on major playoff runs just yet. Still are waiting on there d prospects to be ready. So no they aren't constructed to win now.
