Max retention Leafs would be willing to go is $2M. Past that, it's when teams should start paying up because that's a premium value to get Tavares for a low cap hit.

Roster related question;

Are both Dahlin and Power as good playing their off (right) side as they are the left side of the ice? With the Byram acquisition it looks like one or two of them will likely play their off-side indefinitely. Just curious.

Too much for Tavares; Toronto doesn't have any leverage for that ask.

GM Adams said in an interview with Frank S that both can play right side and Dahlin analytics are all better on the right

Dahlin especially is. Both can do it but dahlin is better on his off side than on his left side. Helps his shooting lanes too. His goal totals have really jumped since playing more on the right
