I don’t understand the fascination some people have in trading Morgan Geekie. I see his name in these AGM’s and his production at $2M is likely something you don’t trade. A 4th round pick is literally nothing and there are minor adjustments you can make to keep him on the team.

I don’t see Stolarz signing for that low nor do I think we need him with Bussi in Providence.

I like the concept of Elias Lindholm especially with how he’s playing in the playoffs. Curious to see what his salary is.

I’m not sure Marchessault is who I invest in, but I think he’s either getting more money on a short contract or a longer contract than this. There are a lot of forwards out there that I find appealing and you could allocate the salary slot.

oh yeah really hard decision for them.... that whole 4th round pick and all.

Make the team older: good plan. Geekie is such a great deal and player, there's zero reason to trade him. I would honestly rather trade Freddy than him. Don't need Stolarz, he and Bussi would play the exact same role. Marchessault is great but too old and likely gets more. Lindholm scares me, but I'm guessing we'll wind up with him, I'm just hoping it's only 4 years. Also a full season of Maroon does not excite me.

Probably meaning tentative on other 3C plans.

Maroon as the final forward is fine. You need someone like him. You can’t have Trent Frederic as your only physical presence who can fight. You use him situationally

This team needs to improve its talent level. They don’t have the picks or prospects to do it. They have to do it in free agency and that likely requires paying more than some fans want with regards to years or dollars. Before the year, most fans would have been ecstatic if Elias Lindholm made it to free agency and ended up in Boston.

I could see Guentzel or Toffoli as well. They need to improve the scoring talent around Pastrnak.

Sweeney might be able to get a 3rd for Geekie but if Poitras is going to be a regular in the lineup and we sign Lindholm then I don’t see where Geekie fits in the team
He’s much better at center than wing and he isn’t beating out Lindholm Coyle or Zacha for any of the Top 6 C spots and it would be criminal to interrupt Poitras development just to accommodate Geekie
I ultimately don’t think he’ll be traded but the team needs more scorers and Geekie shouldn’t be taking away that roster spot from a young skill player like Poitras Lysell or even Merkulov

I’ve preferred Geekie at the wing. His game is pretty defined and complements Poitras well.

I like Beecher or Lauko or Maroon, but they won’t be able to keep Lysell or Poitras out of the lineup if they are showing well and they have players that can be moved down to the 4th line (Geekie being one of them)

Bussi is still a question mark in the big leagues but I’d be comfortable starting the season with Swayman+Bussi and then you could always bring in a veteran backup later on

His finishing is brutal but I wouldn’t mind putting him and Freddy on Poitras wings to open up more space

That’s fair if they can sign all the guys they want without having to trade Geekie it’s a home run

Bringing in a goalie like Driedger who can go to Providence if Bussi plays like he’s capable of. A 1M goalie with the potential to play in Boston should be something they can secure,

That’s actually my preferred third line.

With some nominal cap added, you are essentially replacing Ullmark, Forbort, and Gryzlcyk with Lindholm, Chychrun, and a ~$1M goaltender (I think Bussi)

The forward added is going to depend on your (and their) preference between DeBrusk, Bertuzzi, Toffoli, Terravainen, Marchessault, or Stephenson among others

This FA class looks pretty deep at forward

One of the strikes against Chychrun instead of a pick is he might force a difficult decision between him and Frederic at the end of the year depending on how they handle Marchand’s contract

Honestly my approach to acquiring Chychrun would be to see who plays better between him and Lohrei and then choose one to extend
If they can get Chychrun for Ullmark straight up or even with a late round pick attached then it makes it more palatable to let him walk in FA if Lohrei really outshines him

You could use that logic with Chychrun, Gavrikov, Marner (yes Marner), or even Tavares fully retained.

My perspective is if you get a #1 for Ullmark, you could probably get a solid vet D for $3m expiring if you are patient

Also curious how would you change this if players ended up getting the salaries as shown here from AFP analytics which haven’t been updated since January.

i really hate to break it to you, but the penguins are so weak in their bottom 6 as it stands right now, they would gladly take him and play him anywhere.

Sure, but I'd like to see Poulin and Ponomarev have a crack at it. Have to give the youth a shot sometime.

there are plenty of roster spots available on this roster for younger players. Taking in a good younger player like Geekie isn't blocking anyone.
Not that BOS would ever do this. They wouldn't so you won't have to worry about it.
