fix the bottom 6

Created by: dgibb10
Team: 2024-25 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2024
Published: Apr. 3, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Without McLeod the bottom 6 has lost it's engine, size, and speed. Boqvist, Yegor, and Wood gone are also big impacts, but Mcleod is the DRIVING loss.

Get trenin and Strum in for size, Boqvist and Foegele in to bring speed, and be able to run the bottom 2 lines consistently without getting caved in again.

Bring in a vet 3LD, and be willing to buy a rental 3LD at the deadline.

Get a goalie.

That’s not enough of a return for the sharks.
Whether Sturm is worth it or not we value him pretty highly and moving up less than 2 full rounds isn’t a reasonable return.

I doubt the Bruins would accept that.

Probably not, but the issue is around the secondary pieces. No real interest in Schmid and Boqvist probably carries enough value where I’d rather substitute Lauko.

If I can convince him to look at Ottawa or La, I think could get more immediate options. It’s one the reasons I probably covet Casey over the 2025 first.

I think there is a deal there, but probably not this one though if Lindholm AND Hanifin say they want to come at a price that needs Ullmark to be traded, my guess is NJ is not on his no trade list unless his agent is incompetent.

I’d prefer something other than Schmid

Fair. I had Schmid in for you in case you wanted waiver exempt depth that is capable of playing at the NHL level, since Bussi loses his exemption next year He could be subbed in by a 3rd imo. And obviously you know that Boqvist is my man, but I'm sure the actual devils front office would be amenable to a substitution of a different guy.

It’s a risk, but I do think they like DiPietro and Reid Dyck is a pretty athletic prospect. My guess is they probably want to go with a more veteran option even if he’s not waiver exempt

More than fair. I'm not going to pretend I know much of anything about other teams goalie prospects/AHL options, so I'll trust your expertise on the matter.
