That'd be a pass from Seattle.

Calgary doesn't want Iafallo but they'd probably give you Tanev for Lucius alone. A right shot center who isn't small is Calgary's biggest need.

B. Tanev's playing on your 4th line making $3.5M? You're getting $2.5M off the cap next year by trading his contract and you're getting a 23 year old center that can play on your 4th line plus a 5th rd pick for holding onto some salary this year. I'd say that's not bad.

I agree that Calgary probably doesn't need Iafallo, which is why they're getting a low 2nd round pick (MTL's this year) and a decent prospect in Lucius. I don't think Calgary want's to go into a complete rebuild, so Iafallo is a nice piece to have if their deciding to retool this summer or move him at the deadline next season.

That's how the deadline works! C. Tanev isn't going to cheap as plenty of team's are going to be bidding on him. I think if the jets are going to make a deep run this year I'd rather have the Tanev bros (both energy guys that can play shutdown rolls on the 3rd line and top 4 D) over Iafallo on the 4th line and Kupari a healthy scratch. Lucius is a good prospect that's had some tough luck with injuries recently. He has the skill to develop into an NHL 2C but I don't think he'll get there. The 2nd is for taking on Iafallo's contract next year and since we already traded our 1st this year for Monahan we might as well go all in. Brendon Dillion cost us two second rounders when we acquired him, so I really don't see this as a crazy overpayment for two guys that can potentially make a huge impact on a cup run. I know this trade won't happen but man would I love to see it. GO JETS GO!

I get that and love both players but a deadline where we spend a 1st round pick, early 2nd rnd pick, Lucuis, iafallo, Kupari and a 5th and still don't address our two biggest needs a true 2 C and a true top pair RD I see as overspending on under qualified rentals and a failure

Top pair RD don't grow on trees and almost never become available especially not at the trade deadline. The closest you might come to that is 2nd pair RD Brett Pesce out of Carolina but if he becomes available he'll cost more than Tanev.

Yeah 100% and I think Tanev would be enough to solidify our defense for playoffs but I wouldn't be willing to give up more than mtl's 2nd and Stanley for him

Jets are in win now mode and we shouldn't waste Helle's Vezina caliber season. Our defense is already solid and adding a guy like Tanev would only make us better. Our offense will come, we're just slumping right now. If I'm Chevy, I'm doing whatever I can to make this deal happen as long as it doesn't involve any A level prospects (Lambert, McGroaty, Barlow, Salo) or picks for future years.

Winnipeg's poor offense & powerplay units will likely end up killing any long run this year...don't think improving our #1 overall defense will change that. Chevy would do better to add a cheaper 3rd pairing RHD option at the deadline if he wants to add depth. At least, that's my thoughts.

While agree with your first point, we need to figure out our offense and PP for deep run. I think coaching is a bigger issue for the PP and Bones 5v5 system is very D first. Dallas ran into the same offensive struggles under Bones while he was there. I'm not sure if adding a Gostisbehere type player to QB the PP1 will improve the team overall. Definitely would help the PP though. It'll be interesting to see what Chevy does with the team from here, we need to go for it.
