Description
Scheduled rest day for Poitras in a game where we don't have Zacha already is ****ign dumb. He's literally played TWO games since Dec 3rd, he doesn't need more rest. Geekie, Coyle, Freddy as your 1,2,3 down the middle is trash.

Idk man, it seems to me like Montgomery has a pretty good idea of what to do

Poitras has shown so much potential as a playmaking top-6 C and has made very few mistakes... he has impressed me with his ability to win boards battles despite his lack of size/strength. He deserves a long look at 2C between Marchand and Heinen IMO.

Debrusk has played his best this season on LW opposite Pasta - he needs to play there to get going. Its getting to the point where Debrusk/Pasta should almost be as inseparable as JVR-Coyle-Freddy.

Steen doesn't do it for me - yeah he hustles but I don't think he has the skill to play a top-9 role in the NHL and lacks the physicality to play a 4th line grinder role. Same with Brown. Team is desperately missing Lucic on the 4th line.

Steen/Brown are known commodities who don't bring much to the line up... Sweeney/Monty should be using this string of injuries to give Merk/Lysell/Fariannacci experience at the NHL level especially in low-stakes December games with short-term injuries and a few games in hand in the standings.

Regardless, with the call ups currently in place this is what they should do for tonight's game:

Debrusk-Geekie-Pasta
Marchand-Poitras-Heinen
JVR-Coyle-Freddy
Lauko-Beecher-Boqvist

What they should do when they are healthy:
Debrusk-Zacha-Pasta
Marchand-Poitras-Geekie/Heinen
JVR-Coyle-Freddy
Lauko-Beecher-Geekie/Heinen

Have to think that Monty wants him rested to play a decent amount of minutes vs the Rangers tomorrow.

He'll bench him for the entire third period and we both know it

on a positive note, Geekie had a hell of a game in between Pasta/Debrusk against NJD. That wasn't an easy matchup and he kicked ass.
i'd love to see Poitras in a top 6 role, even as a wing. I know he's struggled a bit at the dot, and playing that defensive role the Bruins ask for out of centers, but benching him and "scheduled rest" days i don't think are a good look for his confidence. I know i'd personally be pissed

I honestly haven't watch many games over the last week or so because my schedule hasn't allowed. Looking at his TOI though he's had some games where he's under where he normally is, but they're aren't many of them. Depending on game situations or how he's playing, then ya maybe he spends most of the 3rd on the bench.

I felt Potrias should have been sent down from the beginning. Our lack of money to spend on a Centre and our need for a prospect to pan out I feel like it felt rushed. Don’t get me wrong the kid is good, but if we had any depth he would have been in junior. Because we burned a year of his contract are we now being forced to shelter him? Maybe. Monty is good with the young guys so let’s just see how it plays out.

The reality is none of us knows what will drive that kid to improve more than Montgomery. The kid seems wired a bit differently than your traditional 19 year old. It wouldn’t shock me that telling him he’s not good enough might be a more effective means than putting your arm around him. I just want to see improvement, because he’s the one center we have with some creativity that can pair with Marchand.
