What was the rush to sign him long-term???? Sorry but this guy is a 3rd pairing dman. Hate the risk to this.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SLAFSQUATCH</b></div><div>See PLD trade. Habs fans were offering "fair trades" for PLD. Considering leverage. Winnipeg fans were irate. LA swoops in and overpays in comparison to Habs concensus. And, signs him to a contract where Habs fan were considering 7x7 big max. In the end. As of right now. LA is sucking on lemons. Perhaps PLD evolves into that player LA paid to get. But as of right now, it would be fair to deem that, dare I say, Habs fans were right in this regard.</div></div>
Chicago is going to be that team that 'overpays' the Bedard lustre will wear off with such a terrible team, again, in the following year.
Chicago should be making a ton of moves as they are starting from the bottom.
No point in the Habs trying to compete with desperate teams that want to make their key players happy and keep ticket sales going.
Habs dont have to worry about either with waiting lists on tickets and clear growth in their team play with many assets turning pro like Hutson, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Roy, Beck next season.

But on most teams, he is a third line player, if this season was a fluke. Which I believe it was, and one can say it's regression... (A third line winger, for 2.75m over three years is not a dump, is all I am trying to say)</div></div>
You’re wasting your time with so many ppl here. That wind homer, he called Monahan a 4th line Center on the jets and that Chevy had no interest. Fast forward a few months and he’s top PP, 2nd line Center and plays on their pk.
These haters never admit they are wrong and simply like to gaslight and troll. The best you can do is build a good block list. Sometimes. I’ll take them off just when I’m in the mood for a good laugh. Don’t engage too much, you can’t win, they’ll just make you question how ridiculous they can actually be in real life and you hope they have mental health care and actually go outside every now and then for their own good.

the reckoning is coming for the Leafs. They really blew it with all those massive contracts. They were given a generational talent in Matthews but instead became a cautionary tale.
The Habs in a parallel universe sign PLD to a massive deal and the leafs walk away from Tavares. I wonder which universe the Leafs are better off?!?
Just sit back and enjoy their decline

Wildcard 2025
Minnesota isn't trading you the 13th overall draft pick in return for two bottom-pairing defensemen and a pick in the late 50's. Don't you think that they'd rather have Greentree or Hage themselves instead of that package? (And that assumes that all of Parekh, Silayev and Yakemchuk and the most highly-rated European forwards are all off the board, too.)

Legitimately insane takes on Matheson here. Matheson ALONE is worth #9. I can’t even believe there’s people arguing that. He literally plays the top 5 hardest minutes in the league while being top 10 in points. On a steal of a contract for 2 more years. Like come on.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>and that's excellent! I'll repeat... In the grand scheme of things (ie looking into the future) 30 year old Matheson was never considered to be the Habs PP1 guy. Not when Hughes acquired him (at age 28), and not now. Hence being a placeholder.
and let's called a spade a spade here (whatever that metaphor is), Matheson is 10th in scoring for Dmen because he plays over 70% of all the Habs PP time (which is 7th worst in the NHL), and is 3rd in the <strong>entire NHL</strong> for average time on ice... Put Matheson on any current contending team, and he obviously would not be putting up the same production or ice-time. All this should reinforce my point that if MTL want to be a contending team, Matheson shouldn't be their PP1 quarterback, nor should he be their leader in ice-time.
And this isn't to take anything away from Matheson! He's been great for MTL. Both offensively and defensively. But ideally (if MTL can be a contending team) you want him running the Habs PP2, and at most on MTLs 2nd defensive pairing (3rd or 4th most used dman for ice time).
And to tie everything together, this isn't to say to rush Hutson. I'm all for MTL taking their time with him. But inserting him directly on PP1 would <strong>not</strong> be rushing him in the slightest, simply giving him the best opportunity to succeed. Hutson will be getting sheltered minutes at 5v5 for quite a while until he can get used to the pro game / speed. And as others have mentioned, pairing him with Savard is the absolute best choice.</div></div>
What do you mean he is not considered the habs #1 PP guy. Of course he is, you provided the stats right after to prove it! I have no idea why you are saying that.
You can mean that he is not in the longterm plans, but he is obviously in the short terms!
and your arguments are unfair towards Matheson. pout our whole powerplay on a cup contending team like colorado, they would all get second PP time and put way less points. Cant just target Matheson.
It is VERY unlikel you would put rookie huston and he would perform better than Matheson. You have to ease the guy into it. Ncca is very different and he needs to put on some muscle and time to adapts. sure he can play a few games this year, but he needs to adapt to the speed of the game. He'll get Pp1 time when he is ready, Matheson has exceeded every expectation of him so far.

He put up 60pts this season, I would say he’d be one of the least worried dmen in Montreal. He’ll be a great mentor to Hutson, maybe finally we’ll have 2 solid PP units.

82 wins? No, you'd need literally the best players at each position on the team to have a chance. 60 wins? Maybe. 70 wins might be possible, but I'm just impressed that this fits under the cap!

1st Overall at Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SharkTank</b></div><div>Nothing.

Man… I guess it’ll depend on where MTL is in the draft. Currently the picks in this trade are #8 and #30(ish) and if you use Calgary’s current position this year for the 2025 pick you’ll also have the #9 pick. So you’re trading 1OA for 2 top 10 picks PLUS you have your own top 10 pick next year. If you’re rebuilding a team, having 3 top 10 picks is a huge move. It’s not an easy no for me. You’d have to seriously analyze if those 3 top 10 players are better than having Celebrini alone.
Idk what to make of the two prospects. Too early to tell if their games will progress.

Your guy has 16 career points and takes a boat load of penalties. Just because Montreal don't have NHL D that they needed to sign a kid from Costco doesn't mean he's got value just because he played NHL time. We gave you Lindstrom because he didn't fit on our blue line. Now he's playing over Xhekaj and you think we wanna trade assets for him? Get out of here.</div></div>
Well, I guess we'll keep him. Whomp Whomp.
Now, if only all the other fan bases could stop suggesting trading for him, it would avoid much **** discussions like this.

Not that we need to rush but personally, if we're really looking to move a D, I'm moving Harris and maybe one other LHD prospect. Outside of that, we shouldn't move Dmen. Montreal has a bad habit of trading good dmen for garbage forwards.
