Note: Reports prior to Sept 2023 were originally graded out of ten, and also included additional categories that have been merged into the current categories.
This likely results in the overall ratings prior to 2023 being decreased in comparison to reports since Sept 2023.

For an `Apples to Apples` comparison between players, we recommend only comparing reports before, or after, Sept 2023.
Results will average out accordingly as more data is accumulated.

Cam TalbotLogo of the Los Angeles KingsG363 of 3

1B
Talbot, on balance, provided the Kings relatively consistent results in regular season. He had moment of high end results - also some uneven play - but the Kings are a playoff team and Talbot posted a respectable 2.50 GAA / .913 save percentage in 54GP In his final ten game segment, Talbot was average. His results - .890 % / 2.86 GAA Big in the net. Veteran. Capable of making routine saves. Not the kind of goalie who gets too active / scrambles / has the ability to make desperation stops moving laterally. At his best when absorbing pucks from distance / squaring up and playing between his posts / keeping his game composed and simple. Talbot will be called upon to be the LA Kings best player in playoffs - if they have sights on upsetting opponents.Apr. 18, 2024Apr. 20, 2024
Arthur KaliyevLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLW224 of 4

L4
Kaliyev is the kind of player who needs to be scoring goals in order to have a regular slot in the lineup. His element is offense. Barely adequate skater for the pace of the NHL. His off the puck detail can be frustrating. There are times he exits the offensive zone too late to catch up on the back check and assist defensively. Has been in and out of the Kings lineup. Through 44GP - 6G-14A - with three of his goals coming on the PP Ice time in most recent five game segment ranged from 9:00 - 14:00 - deployed at ES and PP 3 hits / 3 shot blocks in the segment - 0G - 0 A Kaliyev has a great release, and the puck touch to make plays in tight areas around the crease. Unfortunately, when he's not producing offense his value to the group falls off dramatically. Feb. 22, 2024Mar. 5, 2024
Arthur KaliyevLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLW223 of 4

L4
Kaliyev is polarizing. He doesn't play the game quick or fast. He's an average skater at best. His three zone detail ranges wildly. He definitely cannot be utilized in key defensive scenarios. His element is goal scoring. Kaliyev has great mitts and a fantastic release. He can coral pucks in tight spaces and deposit pucks in the back of the net. Unfortunately his compete in the hard areas also ranges. He's been - in and out - of the dog house in LA. Through 40GP he averaged 13:00 TOI - deployed at even strength and the power-play. Over his most recent twenty game segment he only produced 2 assists. Pending RFA. Cap hit is $894K. It's possible he could upgrade an team's power-play. A change of scenery might motivate him more. Fourth line forward at even strength who finds a role on the PP. Feb. 20, 2024Feb. 23, 2024
Arthur KaliyevLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLW222 of 4

L3
A player like Kaliyev is very likely going to be a very streaky player his entire career. He's an elite shooter who can be very dangerous on the power-play. His skating is barely adequate for the NHL game. He lacks consistent 200ft pace and generally picks his spots to play quick. At the All-Star break it's safe to say the Kings were hoping for more out of the forward Through 38GP he scored 6G-8A - was a (+1) - Averaged 13:09 TOI - 11:25 ES - 1:44 PP Kaliyev doesn't PK - and likely never will at the NHL level. Despite his stature he was only credited with 17 hits and 9 shot blocks in the the 38 GP - Pure offense. When not scoring he struggles to contribute to team success in other areas of the game. Third line forward at even strength but a first unit power-play candidate.Jan. 28, 2024Feb. 2, 2024

Talbot is providing the Kings with consistent / steady goaltending in 23/24. Veteran goalie who was originally signed out of college by the NYR in 2010. Butterfly/Hybrid style with sound crease composure. Big in the net / pucks are finding him in traffic. At his best when keeping his game simple / limiting needless movement / At the mid-way point in the season he had played 28 games and posted .922% and 2.22 GAA Gives the Kings a chance to win every night. Providing consistency. Reliable. Jan. 11, 2024Jan. 13, 2024
Quinton ByfieldLogo of the Los Angeles KingsC212 of 2

L1
Byfield's game is trending up. He's skating on the top line with Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe. He's earned the role through a stretch of consistent contribution offensively, and a heavy / hard to defend, although not punishing physically, style of play. His seasons stats 18GP - 4G - 12A - 12pts - 6 PIM - (+11) Averages 14:52 TOI - 12:23 ES - 2:28 PP - Does not PK Credited with 8 hits and 7 shot blocks 2G - 2A (+3) in his most recent five game segment. Skilled / Power forward. Shields pucks along the wall. Extends plays. Good stick. Can be a threat off the rush. Defensively aware. On the rise. Former #2 overall (2020Nov. 24, 2023Nov. 25, 2023
Carl GrundströmLogo of the Los Angeles KingsRW252 of 2

L4
Grundstrom slots in as a 4F for the Kings He isn't their biggest, most intimidating, forward but he plays fast and engages physically. He only logs around 10:00 TOI - with the bulk of his ice time coming at ES. Has enough skill to move up in the lineup if required. Provides depth scoring in a limited role. Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Vladislav GavrikovLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLD271 of 1

P2
Fits in nicely with the Kings D-core. Slots as a 2D '2-way / match-up/ shutdown D' who provides some depth offense as well. Understated ability to make plays on the offensive blue line. Has a sneaky hard shot from distance. Big. Rangy. More of an 'in the way / shot blocker'' than physically punishing ... but he isn't shy about bumping up against opponents to kill plays and battle for pucks. Valuable. Can be deployed in a variety of roles.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Pierre-Luc DuboisLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLW251 of 1
82
L2
Fits the mold of the team the LA Kings identify themselves as. Big, strong, powerful, moves well and hard to defend. Logs just shy of 18:00 TOI. Bulk of his ice time comes at ES and PP. Leans on opponents in the hard areas. Difficult to move off the puck. When he sets up around the net he is a distraction for goalies. Generally aware in all three zones. Elite elements are power and offense.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Quinton ByfieldLogo of the Los Angeles KingsC211 of 2
84
L1
Power / Finesse forward who has found a home on the Kings top line with Kopitar and Kempe Compliments his line mates. Extends plays by absorbing contact and muscling his way through opponents. Heavy / hard to contain working off the cycle and heading to the net. Skates very well for his stature. When he has a head of steam, in transition, he gives opponents all they can handle. Sometimes it takes big/power forwards longer to adapt to the NHL game. Just scratching the surface. Logs 15:00 TOI - ES and PP. There's, at least, another level of offense on the horizon. Hard to play against. Imposing.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Michael AndersonLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLD241 of 1

P2
His entire game is on the rise. Paired with Drew Doughty at ES. Logging around 20:00 TOI - ES and PK. Does not have a role on the Kings PP. His minutes are hard minutes versus top six forwards. Moves well. Sound spatial awareness. Identifies what's developing around him and identifies his responsibilities on and off the puck. Aware. A '2-way D' who compliments his D-partner who is more of risk taker. Competes. Bodies up. Blocks shots on the PK. Provides second layer of offense as a puck mover - more than a shooter.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Arthur KaliyevLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLW221 of 4
74
L3
If there is a role for a 'specialist' in the NHL, Kaliyev might fit the description. Averaging around 14:00 TOI - ES and PP A pure shooter / goal scorer Kaliyev has an elite release. He catches pucks and directs them on goal accurately and efficiently. Not a burner in open ice. Not a transition threat. His defensive detail ranges as well. Element is offense. Has 2F upside but his overall game holds him back from more of a role over the course of a full 60 minutes.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Phillip DanaultLogo of the Los Angeles KingsC301 of 1
86
L2
Quite literally a 'jack of all trades' for the Kings Logs around 18:00 TOI. Deployed in all situations. Wins over 50% of his draws. Can play up and down the lineup. If the team needs him to provide better than secondary offense he has a role in the top six If the Kings require Danault to shut down a top opponent's line, he is a solid checker with sound three zone awareness and detail. Provides some push back physically at times. Competes. Plays the game the right way. Nothing exceptional in one category. Also no real deficiencies in his game. TrustworthyOct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Kevin FialaLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLW272 of 2
85
L1
Fiala is a play driver who is a threat off the rush and has the skill to beat opponents 1vs1 / even 1 vs 2 when he drives the middle lane Although he's off to a slower start, goal scoring wise, in 23/24 he's equal parts shooter and distributor. His speed pushes opponents off their blue line. When he gets the edge he has the vision to pull up, at times, and distribute to open team mates joining the rush late. Logs over 18:00 TOI. Deployed at ES and PP#1. More energy than physicality. Gets pucks to the net. Element is offense, combined with high end compete ... which equals resultsOct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Trevor MooreLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLW281 of 1
86
L3
Moore has found a home in LA and is signed to a long-term contract He plays the game fast. Moore is quick to space and can push the play in transition. He leans shooter more than distributor overall but might be best described as equal parts Averaging over 17:00 TOI - deployed in all situations Energizer. Not physical. Pressures the play with his quickness. High end compete. Reliable three zone detail. Not just offense.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023

L1
Remains one of the most complete players in the entire NHL despite the fact he's 36 years young Big body. Hard to defend, especially along the wall / working off the cycle. Play maker. Leans distributor more than goal scorer but did score 28 goals last season Logs over 20:00 TOI. Used in all situations. 57% in the face-off circle. No holes Still an F1. Leads by example.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Adrian KempeLogo of the Los Angeles KingsLW271 of 1

L1
Kempe's game has gone to another level the past three seasons. A top line, power / scoring winger When he gets the edge off the rush he takes the play to the net He has a quick catch and release in traffic Shoots the puck accurately. A load to handle along the wall. Uses his large frame to shield pucks and box out opponents Plays with pace. No holes in his game. Close to a complete player. Averages over 19:00 TOI. Used in all situations.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Drew DoughtyLogo of the Los Angeles KingsRD331 of 1
88
P1
Doughty continues to play at a high level at the age of 34 He's logging over 26:00 TOI and being deployed in all situations. On the PP he is equally dangerous from the middle of the ice or the weak side flank. Plays with youthful enthusiasm and high end compete. Empties the tank on a nightly basis. Closes on opponents / takes away time and space / bodies up / battles along the wall / doesn't back down. Transitional / 2-way 'D' Monitoring if he can sustain this kind of volume / ice time No easy minutesOct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023
Matt RoyLogo of the Los Angeles KingsRD281 of 1

Roy is one of the most consistent players on the Kings A '2-way D' who logs over 21:00 TOI on average. He's deployed in all situations, with the bulk of his ice time coming at ES and PK Roy moves well, manages the game with the puck on his stick, plays with discipline, and pushes back physically. Through the first 9GP in 23/24 he's already been credited with 23 hits and 22 shot blocks. Additionally, Roy provides a second layer of offense. Reliable.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023

Talbot is suiting up for his 8th team this year in LA He's on a 'value' contract - a one year deal paying $1M Talbot is 36 years old and nearing the end of his NHL journey When his game is on he utilizes his size to his advantage When square to the play he is difficult to beat. His read / react / lateral movement is above average. His crease composure ranges. Butterfly / positional / hybrid. Average gloves. Above average playing the puck. Like most goalies, when he's on he can provide steady results. Doesn't steal a ton of games. Consistency ranges. Rebound control and high net coverage are areas that can be exposed.Oct. 31, 2023Nov. 1, 2023

Not tall. Stocky / Strong A very good skater. Quick to space. Ability to lead / join the rush offensively. His game versus Swiss provided mixed results. Started the game playing fast and transitioning pucks effectively. Also gapped up well / killed zone entries against. Back half of the game slowly started to lack detail. Lost his man on the second goal against when he found himself looking at the numbers of his opponent driving to his net off the wallDec. 26, 2022-

Looks comfortable at the NHL level. A solid skater who has no issues with the pace. A transitional defender who has the skill set and instincts to QB the power play An area defender at even strength and the penalty kill Rarely gets himself out of position in all three zones Picks his spots along the boards and around his crease ... less about physically engaging ... more jump to space quicker than opponents. Has added more weight and strength.Oct. 25, 2022Oct. 27, 2022

A steady 2-way defenceman who plays a low risk game. He has some height but he's lean. Room to add 15-20lbs of proper weight. Skates well. Reads the play. Low risk approach. Occasionally he will join the rush. Rarely leads the attack. Looks to make simple outlets and keep the play in front of him. Defensively he takes away time and space adequately. When he adds strength he will need to ramp up his physical game. Nothing elite or poor about his game. Reliable player.Jun. 27, 2022Jul. 4, 2022

More of a distributor than a shooter. His skating is average plus and has room for improvement. His stride is efficient. More leg / core strength will lead to additional separation. Hughes has the ability to wait for pressure to arrive and make plays in tight areas. At times he exposes pucks in the middle of the ice or tries to make a more difficult play than is required. Having said that his hockey IQ overall is sound. He doesn't possess an elite element but also doesn't have any glaring weaknesses in his game. Can be used in variety of roles.Mar. 18, 2022Jul. 3, 2022

Fiala plays both quick and fast. He is a threat off the rush and has the ability to gain the edge on zone entries and take pucks to the net. His element is offense but he has added more defensive responsibilities to his repertoire. In Minnesota he logged between 18:00 - 22:00 TOI and was used in all situations. A top 3 forward who competes He's sturdy/strong. The next step in his development will be taking his regular season success in to playoffs. To date his playoffs have been uneven. For a player who averages just over (10:00) TOI his stats line is better than average. Solid pace. Not a natural playmaker. Doesn't possess great vision off the rush. The kind of player who gets helpers as a result of hard work and turnovers. Does produce some secondary goal scoring. The majority of his shifts come at ES. Not used on special teams. He bumps opponents but doesn't play a heavy game. Pursues pretty well without the puck. Competes to create turnovers. A depth player who is only 24 years old. Big body goalie who is pretty athletic for his stature Butterfly/Athletic style When he was in Europe he seemed to play deeper in his net and allow the play to come to him In North America he has resorted to playing higher in his crease which can lead to pucks spilling to areas he has to move further to make stops Overall, however, he is having a solid season overall Size is a plus / athleticism is a plus / needs to work on recovery quickness and puck playDec. 10, 2021Jan. 4, 2022
