Value wise makes sense but VAN won't trade EP40, also makes zero sense having Luke and Quinn on the same team, Like would be held back since he'd never get PP1 time

Hughes has 6 years at 8 mill. Pettersson+Demko for Hughes would maybe get a not immediate hang up.

Lek+1st for Luke+Holtz+Marino does get an immediate hang up

Or to put it simply.

He still gets you in the playoffs, just need him to play max 60 games and Devils have 2 young goalies and Allen to spot Demko to give him less games to make sure he’s fresh for the playoffs

You are forgetting his cap hit is a bargain as any of the other goalies like Saros and Markstrom Devils want salary retained which ain’t happening

His cap hit is identical to Saros and Ullmark.

Again. Injury prone, has been relatively up and down. Historical goalie returns aren’t high.

In fact not even sure why he’d return more than Schneider who had much better numbers

Pettersson is a good player, but that contract sucks, especially what he's giving them in the playoffs

Hughes does not suck in the playoffs and is on a way better deal... easy no from NJ

The contract in my eyes is just too big a gap.

If you value both players equally at 16 mill, that’s 48 mill for Jack and about 36 mill surplus value for pettersson. And it may be because of bias, but I value Jack higher than Pettersson from an on ice perspective so the gap grows in my eyes

And I’d say Demko makes up that gap with 2 years of him
