Johnny has still led the Jackets in points since he's been here. He's obviously not putting up 100, but he's also not playing with Lindholm and Tkachuk as linemates anymore. I think CBJ is still more than happy with his contract.

I disagree to an extent... I think if you are getting paid anything $9M+, you should be consistently a PPG player no matter what. Laine was scratched at one point this past year. CBJ had the money to pay Gaudreau, but I think if he was on any bigger market team they would be talking about how bad that contract is.

thats fair for sure. Johnny was right around a ppg after the all start break but the hope is definitely that he's the kinda guy that can elevate everyone around him no matter the circumstances. i still think he is/can be that with CBJ, especially if we can solidify a top line of JG - Fantilli - Marchenko/Laine for more than a couple games at a time

When you're a team like CBJ with a (in my opinion unwarranted) reputation as a place FAs dont want to go, you have no choice but to overpay if you want a guy like that. I think that reputation is starting to go away with JG signing, Laine and Werenski resigning, and even Severson/Gudbranson signing to a lesser extent. I just hate hearing people that know nothing about the city talk down on it. We love it here!
