Realistic 2020-21
Seider is the one we need to bring up. If one of the 3 prospects you have coming up can be an average 3rd line player in the NHL that would be awesome. I have my doubts but Hopefully thats the case. The only real center that could help via FA is probably Haula, I would hope that a trade to acquire a second line center would happen. Its a lost year of development with zadina playing with filppula. I see where your coming from with QB and veleno coming up but If they arent going to contribute at the NHL Level this year we can't wait for another lllooonngg year of losing to secure their potential spots. Having too many centers is never a bad thing

No but attempting to improve the team would be nice. . No prospects moving up to Main roster after a historically bad year would be disappointing. Trying to acquire a center to play on line 2 is a must. Also at least one move weaponizing the cap is mandatory in my opinion. You can't sit back you have to try and improve

Statistically Krug is better than Trouba and Trouba never made it to free agency so more than likely that Krugs going to get 8. The term is the big question

After retention and signing AA the difference would be a wash just the pick difference which is 16 spots max. AA is only going to get 4m Max

You think the Nucks can afford to shell out over 6m to a goalie with Petey and Hughes needing extensions and all of the other holes that need to be filled? Demko is the future right? 6 mil+ for a goaile on a time share seems like pretty bad cap use

BC they know for a penny over 7m a year they are going to lose him. Just like Toronto fans last year were saying mitch was going to get 7-8m.

The guy is a half point+ per game top pairing D-Man that plays 20 mins + and PP, how much less realistically is he going to get on the open market

If you changed the 1st to a conditional 1st that Columbus can keep their 1st if they have a top 10 pick and Detroit keeps their 2nd if Columbus keeps their 1st and you’d have to remove the retention.</div></div>

The pick could be top 9 protected for this season and detroits 2nd is 32 ovr so its pretty close. Retention will need to be required 750k at least

Not too many star players over 28 YO are taking super team friendly deals anymore. This is his last and only chance to get paid long term. Tough to leave 8-10 million bucks on the table during your final high earning years

If Boston wins cup this year then Krug cashes in via FA and signs for more money elsewhere. 7.5m is the least Boston would be able to lock him in for long term because he's going to get offers of 8m+. Hes a true offensive d-man under 32 YO

ACTUAL TOP 10 2020 MOCK
To move up and pick number one from 2nd overall i'm not sure the wings would take a package of pk2 ovr, pk33 ovr, suzuki or caufield(one of the 2) and next years 1st lotto protected. And thats a huge haul. Lafreniere has shown that he is a next level talent and that is something that any team in Detroit's position can't pass up. Im not sure I agree that Byfield is a lock to score 100 pts in his prime in the NHL. If Montreal had a Bluechip D prospect then this would become a much more realistic trade scenario.
Doesn't matter anyway because the lottery system is so screwed up that Detroit who's on pace for one of the worst seasons in modern day history will more than likely pick 4th ovr.... They need to weighten the odds more for the bottom 3 teams. with a free agency system that doesn't adjust state tax at an even basis Its pretty difficult for teams to move out of the cellar and not have terrible contracts holding them back if they somehow do. There is no way a team outside of 7th last this day in age should pick in the top 2 ever.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jtcurls</b></div><div>No kidding.....taxes are really higher in Ontario.
Newsflash, the weather is warmer in Tampa too.
Perhaps players take more into account then tax rates. Maybe the fact he has endorsement opportunities in Toronto that are higher then anywhere else, maybe like Tavares Mitch will want to win in his hometown. Maybe, just maybe this guy is not a total lug head like some people and he can see beyond his tax bill.
I think after 3 years in the league he is smart enough to see the big picture. Perhaps he can talk with his buddy Marleau about never winning the cup. If you look at all the great teams the stars were smart enough to take a little less so they could be surrounded by other talented players. Crosby, Malkin left enough on the table for the GM to bring in Kessel or Hornquist.
I believe Tavares and yes Matthews both did that. Mitch should do the Sam and recognize that being the highest paid winger will cripple the Leafs. After 3 pretty good years being paid like the 4th highest should be good.</div></div>
newsflash: marner is not going to take a penny less than 10m from the leafs nor should he.

Toronto doesn’t want him to go.
Your right it’s not apples to apples. You think Mitch will make 2 or 3 million a year in endorsements in Arizona, Florida or anywhere else. Plus nowhere else does he get to play with Tavares and nowhere else does he get to play in front of his hometown.
No one is going to pay him over 10 million on a long term plus give up the picks required.
Mariners “people” will ask for the Matthews deal but will ultimately sign the Kucherov deal.</div></div>

The kucherov deal in tamap is alot different than the same aav in Tornoto. You cant say he will get the kucherov deal. its 1.5 less per year in toronto. 9.5 in tampa is 11m in ontario.
