Agreed. Maybe back out Hayden and I could get on board with it. Otherwise.... yeesh.

Slavin was extended by Carolina. He isn't going to be a free agent. He's also set to make $5.3M against the cap starting next year. Not a smart move for PIT.

I think I agree with some of the above. I believe Tanev could fetch more of a return from Philly, possibly a Sanhiem type player. Otherwise, I'm impressed at how fair these are! Could realistically see these happening.

We need a D
I like the trade, I like the concept, I REALLY like Miller, I am a fan all around. Miller adds great scoring ability from the back end. He was similar to a Wild Bill Karlsson in that he was buried on the depth chart in Boston. He's a really good player and could be a nice add to the Hawks. I think Forsling, Duclair and a 2nd gets it done. I do agree with Sam though above. Duclair has the ability that, if in the right system, he can be a top 6 winger who can score 30+. Could be one of those win-win trades.

Back to the Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JordanCGrant</b></div><div>I agree he will rebound, but he is having a career worst season. His shot percentage is 7% I think career average is around 11 or 12%. His passing has also been uncharacteristically down as well in the offensive zone. If he can get back to his career averages or close both he and Toews will from a points production be in a good place next season.</div></div>
Right on. Even if he can get back to being "average" with his shooting he's a 20 goal scorer. Ideally, next year will allow Saad and Toews to feel fully comfortable again together as well as maybe find a permanent RW. Obviously, if Q is still around next season, it's hard to assume lines will always stay together, but there weren't a whole lot of times where the Saad, Toews, Hossa line was broken up. Just finding someone to gel with them like Hossa did for a lengthy period of time would really benefit both Saad and Toews. Great point!

CAR and ARI trades
Look... I get Saad was snake bitten this year, but why does everyone want to trade a 25 year old 2-way forward, who is clearly able to put up 50 points and is at a friendly number for term? I don't get it. For the Carolina trade to make any sense, give me Turbo back instead of Rask then.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JordanCGrant</b></div><div>Corey Crawford covers a multitude of defensive issues. Plus Brandon Saad has been absolutely atrocious this season.</div></div>
Saad has been pretty snake bitten... however he's actually been pretty good. In CF%, among players who have played above 20 games, Saad ranks 5th in the NHL. In other words, the Hawks dominate possession when he has been on the ice. Only issue has been finishing. He'll rebound, especially since he's only 25.

Selling what we can
So you're selling in preparation for the future... why are you going to trade away two decent prospects, Hartman and a cost effective controllable 24 year-old D-man for a bag of trash from Edmonton and hopes of a trade that Arizona would never make?

I'm just worried about Rutta. Why would you pay $2M if he's going to be your 7th D? Only makes sense to keep him if Bean goes to Rockford for a year or so.

Quite a fan of all of these moves. I'd say other than Karlsson (not going to beat a dead horse, the guys above covered that nicely), these trades all make sense for all parties involved and back a lot of chatter out there about who likes who. Nicely done!

Rebound year for Plecky
Just because someone else will say it, Hawks could only give Carlson 7 years. However, actually am a fan of these moves. They could all benefit moving forward. I would even argue that the Hawks could entertain offers on Anisimov if Schmaltz continues to develop.

Fletcher is FIRED! I take over as GM. Tavares signs.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AK_tune</b></div><div>You said critique away ^^ ...
That's a lot of salary dumping - harder to do IRL than from the armchair. DET has no room for Ennis, nor does ARI have any need for that Parise contract - they could sign a guy like Neal/JVR/Perron if they need to reach the floor and it would be cheaper, more effective, and they wouldn't have to give up picks. But I do think MTL would be interested. Look around the league at other centers making 5.5 for 2 years and I think you'd be happier with Fletcher's extension of Koivu.
I'm being pedantic here, but anyone signing UFA Tavares could only offer 7 years (he could be extended for 8 by NYI only). Also, Marchessault is playing his way to a bigger contract than that IMO.</div></div>
Agreeing with you AK_tune, I think Marchessault is playing much bigger than $3.5M. I think he will want, and maybe even get, something in the 4 or 5 yr range for around $5M.

I would say a solid prospect Vegas could add to this deal is a guy like Griffin Reinhardt on top of Lagace and the picks may be enough to sway Detroit. Possibly two 2nds instead of a 2 and 3. I'd say then, with maybe lower upside prospects, two picks that Vegas can surely give up would make this a pretty good deal on both sides.

Sharp 1 year show me contract
I think in this one year "show me what you got season", Sharp would be willing to take less than 4. No one is lining up at his door offering anything close to his original contract. I think a team like Tampa who still has pieces in place to be a contender could get him for 2.5-3. I do like all the other contracts though, would be interesting if TBL could get Johnson and Palat at 5.25 for 8 years...
