All of those include trading De Haan, Maattaa, Smith, and stupidly Kubalik. Again, a ****-ton of trades with unrealistic returns. I then came across one that had the Hawks going into next year with Delia and Lankinen as the goalies, trading Kubalik and Strome in the process...saw that it was you, and knew exactly not to take you seriously anymore

Correct. It's a cap dump in the case that the Hawks need to free up cap space and he's the likely candidate outside of De Haan, Maattaa, and maybe Zack Smith. He can also yield the best return.

Brodie made $4.6mil, Hamonic made $3.8mil...there is no way in hell both of those guys sign for that same dollar amount, even coming off regressed seasons. 2 teams will overpay and they'll take their money and play elsewhere.

It's essentially a cap-dump and the Penguins will realize that. Plus DeSmith solves the backup goaltender vacancy.

Nylander reminds me of Perlini with how streaky he is. Where else does Nylander fit in the lineup? Caggiula's spot as 3LW? Its hard to have Caggiula's grit/defense/speed on the bench. Nylander doesn't do anything that stands out, he is either all over the tv screen or non-existent and he doesn't get dirty enough to play in the bottom-6 regularly.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>You're a hawks fan so I'm quite surprised that you are short selling your players. Those don't entirely seem like cap moves, so why are you doing them?</div></div>
To prepare to get aggressive for 2021 off-season and to sell high on Saad while the $6mil still holds value. 2021 will have a lot of goalies hitting Free Agency with the likes of Andersen, Binnington, Raanta, and Rittich just to name a few...I fully expect the Hawks to go after a big name goaltender while Kane and Toews are still in their prime.
Trading DeHaan and Saad also free up enough cap space to re-sign Kubalik and Strome which will command $10mil total, so dumping $10mil with Saad and DeHaan while they still have value albeit expensive contracts seems like the right move. I would be shocked if we got anything higher than a 3rd for De Haan knowing his injury history. In Saad's case, he's been inconsistent since coming back, but seems to have new life this year, so I figure his ceiling is a 2nd rounder. Connor Murphy is the only other Hawk worth trading for assets but he's our most consistent RHD so I figure it's worthwhile to hold on to him.

Smith has a NTC and costs almost half of what Saad is. Plus you could yield a better return with Saad anyways. Mitchell won't start the season with the team, but will more than likely play towards the end of the year after playing with Rockford for most of it.

All thats left is Perlini
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>and barely any cap space...thanks Stan.
We had plenty of cap space and ended up with two middle LHD guys (Maatta and De Haan) at $4M and $4.5M both with injury history plus bottom 6 players costing us another $8M+ (Carpenter, Smith and Shaw). I like the Lehner move and De Haan; Shaw is OKAY but we gave up to much. No need for Smith at that cap hit and Maatta was just a horrible deal.</div></div>
I think Stan realizes the window is closing and wants to make another cup run while Toews and Kane are in their early 30's and before all our younger guys need contract extensions, which is why certain moves have been made. Maatta, when on his game, is a serviceable defensive-defenseman and still fairly young. De Haan is the same but is more realiable, consistent and has better speed, and he fits in the top-4. Both individuals do not have NMC's or NTC's which prevents them from being moved if Stan decides to go that route, which is nice. Our bottom-6 has been atrocious the past few years and we've become a very top heavy team with the top 2 lines taking up 75% of the teams scoring. Having the likes of Shaw, Saad, Smith, Caggiula, Carpenter, etc. not only provides secondary scoring, but they provide the sandpaper that this team has lacked for years now. It's nice to be able to roll 4 lines that can score and hit and not have to rely just on Kane's and Toews's lines to do so. Also, Anisimov was a 3rd Line Center at best making top-6 money, he's under 50% on the dot (Smith is a career 50.7% from the dot) and really only shined when playing along side Panarin and Kane. Finding a player with Shaw's contract and playing style is hard to find in today's NHL and even though we might have given up a little too much, he is worth it at that price. Lehner, yes, was a fantastic signing and probably means the end for Crow after this year.

Gardiner rumor plus Toronto and Vegas trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>Toronto - most likely to move Marleau and Zaitsev. Creates enough cap space to keep everyone. Sikura is a decent player who hasn't done much in the league yet. Analytics are one thing, but actually producing is another. Forsling would only see AHL time in Toronto.
Vegas - more likely to get back a better valued pick than depth options. They can't afford anything right now. Haula still brings in a 2nd, which is better value than a couple depth pieces
New Jersey - Anisimov is a cap dump. Chicago has to add to move him. Don't see why you'd have other teams having to do something similar and not get fair value for their cap problems, but Chicago doesn't.</div></div>
Anisimov isn't a cap dump, but with Strome now manning 2C and Evan Barratt and possibly Turcotte if he gets drafted, waiting...Anisimov becomes a bottom-6 player who still has the ability to play in a top-6 role. Again, this comes down to a numbers game. Teams like Buffalo and Ottawa are probably better destinations, but New Jersey could best use Anisimov and still be in playoff contention if Schneider can play Schneider is capable of.

Just tinkering around if Bowman decides to chase Gardiner and forget about De Haan and Murray. I feel like if he goes after De Haan, either Gus or Saad get moved thus creating another hole...and with Murray he's taking a risk on someone with a dark injury history in recent years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>Gardiner signs for no less than $6M x 5 years.. and all your trades terrible favour Chicago so the other teams decline</div></div>
Fair enough on the Gardiner contract, I gave him a contract similar to what Ryan Murray could get so I may be off on that. As the trades go, lets start with Toronto. They are in cap-hell and will probably unload Johnsson, Kapanen, Brown, and possibly Marleau and Zaitsev depending on the deal. Toronto gets back two pieces that, total, will not reach Johnsson's cap hit. Forsling and Sikura will probably sign anywhere from 900k-1.25mil apiece. Sikura's CF% was 55.1, highest on the entire Hawks team, unfortunately the numbers aren't there......yet. Forsling has the potential to be a top-4 LD who never got enough playing time in Chicago. As far as the Vegas trade is concerned, Haula is someone they can let go because, at best, will be no more than a bottom-6 offensive player if Cody Glass gets brought up and Wild Bill resigns. Hayden is a bottom-6 option that will cost about $2 mil less. Fortin has tremendous speed and got caught in the numbers game with the Hawks.

lmao its not like he’s getting traded to Ottawa, if Crawford and Murphy were healthy the whole year, the Hawks are a playoff team. Johnson, Gourde, Palat, Killorn, and Miller will all be approached to compile a list of teams they do not want to go to. If you want to talk about ‘sacrificing’ im sure everyone I listed then coincides to that comment. People have to be moved, and I doubt all said players will throw a hissy fit if approached. More will be reluctant to leave than you think, it’s just a matter of who...and in my fantasy world, Johnson is that guy. Who the hell wouldn’t want to play on a line with Toews and Kane? lol
