I agree with Beetlejuice. The Hawks won't be able to pay him the money he will want. So the better move is to keep the building going as it is. We need long term help that doesn't have to be paid immediately after acquisition.

If Sikura is somehow good
I think Sikura is very good.... until it gets physical. Yes in the scrimmages he has looked awesome. As someone who has played a lot of hockey and seen some very good practice players that don't translate to a real game when it gets physical they disappear. It may be fear, it may be psychological who knows what it is but some guys just can't do it. I imagine although they played hard in the scrimmages no one was out there throwing serious body or trying to hit anyone hard enough to hurt someone. I would love for it to translate to the real game but who knows what will happen. He hasn't played in physical leagues. He played in minor junior then went to NCAA so he needs to learn how to play when it's physical.

2020 Offseason Try 1
I think the Hawks are better off keeping Lehner if they can. Crawford hasn't been the same in years and I think the lack of interest Lehner had last year he should be singable around the same cap hit if not lower.

Essentially Arizona is a cap dump. May have to take less or give the rights to a better prospect. but everything can be buried in the desert. except the Seabrook contract... that one hurts.
I'm not high on Faulk but I have also lost faith in Saad at least Faulk would come off the books next year and there would plenty of cap to sign debrincat and Strome to deals.

Toronto say goodbye to Kap
The biggest problem I have with this team is where is the money to sign both Debrincat and Strome next year? do you think 10 million will do for both of them? would you rather have Debrincat, Caggula Kahun and Strome going forward or Skinner Kapnen and maybe 2 of the other guys mentioned.
Also if you are offering for Kapenen it will take a little more to get him for sure

what would the team look like if it did not have toews and kane
if you were going to do something like this you should have A) traded them away or B) gone back to 2008 and had different draft picks that weren't Kane or Toews (i.e Nicklas backstroke or Phil Kessel in place of Toews) or (James Van Riemsdyk or Kyle Turris in place of Kane)

Youth Infusion + Re-tool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HawksFan28</b></div><div>The problem with this team is that they were too "youthful" this season. I don't have an issue with youth but that youth has to be high end talent. What the Hawks iced this season (outside of DeBrincat and Schmaltz) are young kids that have bottom 6 and #5-6 potential - not top 6 top 4 potential.</div></div>
Look at the past stanley cup winners. The pittsburgh penguins defence with Brian Dumoulin 26, Olli Maatta 23 Schultz 27 Young inexperienced defence who played above their talent level. these are not top 4 potential in fact Pittsburgh other than Kris Letting doesn't even have top end defence. What they did do is play within their abilities. Unlike Chicago who plays a puck control game pittsburgh relied on chipping the puck out and then just letting their forwards track it down. Their forwards have Young guys like genteel 23, sherry 25, Rust 25 Again youth that is inexperienced and plays above their abilities these again are not top 6 players.
Pittsburgh has written the playbook on how to win the cup.... they are extremely fortunate to have crosby Malkin and Kessel at a low cap hit for their skill level which makes it a little better but its simple high end talent that is surrounded by young guys that play well above their level. Fast and young is the new way to win not experienced big and mean. Chicago is going in the right direction someone like Duclair who has limited experience would excel in the playoffs. With Crawford healthy the haws are a completely different team and likely make the playoffs. They also will bounce back next year. the future is bright on the back end for long to come. Yes the core is aging but every team needs to re stock over time it is very hard to stay elite long term.

Dreaming of Russia
Krys would be with the team only if he decided to leave school and would play minimally in a development role. I know Shalunov is under contract next year but he could be added at the end of the season much like nashville is. the Enstrom deal is to have a d man who can play until one of the prospects is ready to step in. the bridge contracts for duclair harder and hinostroza are probably high but I hate when people always make ridiculous contracts just to provide a ton of cap space. I also would like to point that when the cap rises all contracts rise along with it.
I agree kovalchuk would look great with kane and schmaltz but I think he would look great anywhere.

Am I only one bothered with "upper-body/lower body" terms with injuries?
The last two responses hit the nail on the head. Ive played a lot of hockey in my life and whether the players will admit it or not any information they have will be used. If you know someone has a separated right shoulder you will make sure you finish every check on them. This includes hits that a borderline penalties. If someones ankle is sore it will be targeted by slashes. Teams don't release too much information because they don't want teams to target their players.
The thing that bothers me is early in the season when injuries are less important and they still don't give out information.

30 Minutes
It is quite simple. Kane is a cancer on every team he plays on dating back to his junior days in Vancouver. I know guys who have played with him and they say he is just a terrible human being and not a team player. This is likely the best return Buffalo could get for him because there was little to no interest. Its hard to get something worthwhile for a guy nobody else wants. What would be interesting is to know what all the other offers were for Kane because if that was the best they got..... WOW he has no value.

How does Hartman get a similar return as Stastny???
STL looks really good.... until you remember they have nobody to stop the puck. They need to get a Goalie that can handle playoff pressure.... They have been right there for years but the Goalie seems to be their weak spot.... I think the last time STL had a goalie they could trust is 96 with Fuhr..... and we all remember what happened that year after he went down.

post 2015 stanley cup. The moves they should have made
It is very easy to look back to 2+ years ago and make theses seemingly right decisions. I do have moments where I have doubted some of Chicago's moves but the fact of the matter is that hindsight is 20/20. Moves need to be made and it is a very difficult thing to do. Seabrook fell off and it wasn't a slow decline. Almost over night he became half the player he once was.
Also it is hard to make trades when teams know that you are in tight with the cap and looking to dump salary. Bickell would still be on the team albeit with LTIR relief once his MS came to light. One thing your team also fails to consider is the 6+ million of Hossa's contract.
It is unfortunate that the Hawks have been struggling this year. They will likely miss playoffs but I believe a lot of that is due to the Crawford injury not the team itself.

Time for Bowman to Go
Bowman doesn't necessarily need to go. The Hawks have been hampered by some misfortune and as a fellow Hawks fan you had to know this was coming. The team is aging and it is difficult to keep a team contending in the cap era. I think there is some young talent that can flourish. Yes Seabrooks contract is bad but if he played like he did before signing it now you'd think it was a reasonable deal. He fell off it happens. The Toews and Kane contracts... what are you going to do pay a 3 time cup winner, conn smythe winner less then other top end players in the league. The cap was suppose to go up but when Canada went in a recession and the value of the dollar dropped revenue sharing which is generally supported by canadian teams decreased and hence less cap increase. Bowman is doing well. give him a few more years to right the ship.

clearly you are not a big hawks fan. Whether you consider Toews or Kane's line as line one this is the current lines the hawks tend to run. Osterle has been playing alongside Keith for a while now and Forsling and Rutta usually play more minutes then Seabrook and Murphy do. To be honest if Seabrook wasn't so valuable as a leader Id put him as the healthy scratch.

The thing that drives me nuts about Chicago fans and their armchair GMs is they always go back to the past. So many trades for Shaw and TVR. The team let those guys go for a reason. The value was no longer there. Its the same reason they regret the sea brook contract.

Tavares??
Well they would be left with two options. 1. trade his rights for something in return, he would be a RFA that would garner interest and a decent return. or 2. use the 5.7 million in cap space to bump him up to 10 million (which I think is still to high for a player who has had one really good season).
I see them doing some sort of a bridge deal. The intent with the signings I made would allow both Karlsson and Perron to expire in 3 years leaving room to bump the bridge deal up to 8.5 million if he continues his success. I think if you look around the league there are very few 10 million dollar players. There are only 12 players with a Cap Hit over 8.5 million dollars. Add Eichel Mcdavid and Matthews to that list next year (15). I think everyone forgets that the contracts Matthews Mcdavid and Eichel are signing aren't for just a top line its for a franchise player. Karlsson is not quite a franchise player that can demand that kind of money. He is a player having a very good year but 1 year will not make him that kind of money. Lets not forget he had a combined 50 points in his previous 183 games in the NHL. It takes consistency to demand 10 million. Even Patrick Kanes second contract was only only 6.3 million and that was after averaging just under a point per game through 3 full seasons. Any good negotiator is going to bring notable comparisons to the bargaining table. This is why Marchessault only signed for 5 million after 70 points in 122 games prior to his success this season (40 points in 38 games which is better then Karlssons 36 points in 41 games). Teams don't just hand out big deals they have to be earned over successive years of production.

Mike Green
as a Chicago fan I would love the trade; however, I would make two minor changes: 1. The Wings would have to retain some salary (Hawks would need it to make it work) 2. Hawks pick moved to a 2019 first rounder and a late round 2018 pick. (Chicago already doesn't pick in the 2nd round and I think the management wouldn't want to be without a 1st and 2nd round pick in the same draft year)
I think the value is fair in most trade situations you created. The scary thing is if the cap goes up enough that Green may stay with a contender he is traded too. This year with the projected 5 million increase in cap makes rental players possible long term solutions so it will be an interesting trade deadline as a result.
