Given the Bergevin has showed trouble handling top end players most Habs fans want him fired, I on the other hand see the solid number of exceptional moves he has made at the bottom of the roster (bottom 6 forwards, bottom 3 Dmen) and would like to somehow see him stay. So the question is, if Bergevin step away from top 6 forward and top 3 defence, trades or contract talks, in place of an "assistant" GM taking that roll would you like to see him remain on staff?

I heard an interesting suggestion on a MTL radio station (TSN 690), that with Habs owner Moulson publicly stating he 's keeping Bergevin, could it be possible to bring in someone to take over as President of Hockey operation, to oversee high profile decisions. Currently both Bergevin and Moulson share responsibility of Hockey Operations, with Bergevin holding the title of President and General Manager.

As you say, Bergevin has been solid with little moves to tinker the roster (Dale Weise, Byron, Danault, Deslauriers). It could make sense to bring in a new voice that can trump Bergevin's for high profile situations and dealing with star players (letting Markov go, failing to sign Radulov, Subban - Weber deal, trading Sergachev, Price's contract)

The guys at TSN690 had a few names to suggest: Serge Savard, Vincent Damphousse. It's an interesting thought.

You didn't actually answer, would you keep him in this type of scenario?

Emphatic no. His outdated thinking, poor evaluation, inability to adapt, stubbornness and arrogance, could be contagious and have even deeper rooted effects if he were given a different role. He already put his buddy Therrien in the scouting department and we've had enough ingrained, inbreeding, nepotism, boy's club, recycling. We need to make a clean break and relax the language standards, so we aren't stuck in the position of having to bring back the same people repeatedly.

"repeating the same mistakes" should be the Habs middle name. I can see it already, in 5 years MTL will announce there letting go of Claude Julien and hire Alain Vigneault....

I kinda think it is impossible to "fire" a GM, who also half president of the team, and keep him around in another role. Right or wrong, he is seen as THE problems with the Habs. Wanna change? He has to be completely let go and many of his assistants too. Start fresh if you have too, but not half way measures, by keep Bergevin around in any position.

To be fair Therrien is still under contract, thats why he was given a scouting role. Molson is a cheap SOAB and his money cant be wasted despite his billions

I just can't think of a worse position to put him in. This is the guy that overvalued old and slow veterans when we had younger and more dynamic options available, which also hampered our prospect development. His old school mentality was a major hurdle and influence on our team's direction during his tenure. Paying him to sit at home and drink Molson products would at least limit any further damage he might cause.

Unless we have him making scouting recommendations and then we are using his lists to know which players to avoid, in which case, brilliant!

The only way to fix this team is to get rid of Molson, thats where the problems start and the problems will end

I'd name both Therrien and Bergevin To East coast and lhjmq scouting direction. Both under Timmins could help us.

Im not sure in a limited role that he brings anything that someone who'd come on behalf of a new Gm wouldn't bring. He's a capable manager even though he's made some blunders but in a decreased role, what would he bring exactly?
