Description
STL Trade: A 1st Round pick, and two prospects that are expendable to STL because they get outranked by others (Barbashev by Kyrou, Walman by Dunn). Also, I look at the Gunnarsson for Gorges as a swap of slightly similar 6/7th D, however Gorges' salary comes off the books after this season. This could help STL re-sign young Evander. I would be willing to add conditional picks to make this work. STL is the best fit for Kane, and I don't think its that close.
--------------------
WPG trade: I'm thinking if Trouba is asking for more than the Peg wants to dole out with Laine about to get a big contract and he threatens arbitration, WPG can get a haul of young, talented, cheap assets to replace expensive vets. I might be overpaying but, hey RHD are valuable and having Trouba and Risto as your top RHD for 5 more seasons is good.

Nylander: still has 3 years of ELC, can replace Wheeler as a top6 RW if they can't re-sign
McCabe: 5th LHDman with 2nd pair upside on a cheap deal that can take over minutes from Toby Enstrom.
I would be willing to swap Nylander for Reinhart , and adjust value accordingly, I'm just thinking that WPG in this scenario would go for the asset with more cost control.
--------------------
Ran tankathon, got 5th. Zadina is still a dude, makes Nylander expendable.
--------------------
Last thing, after this season, the Sabres dump Moulson, Pominville, Gunnarsson, and a Bogo buyout would lead to about 25-27M in cap space depending on the movement of the ceiling. Lots of interesting UFAs that year like OEL, McDonagh, Panarin etc that could be nice fits on a team that is (hopefully) making strides by then.

Blues likely say no. They like Gunnarson and Walman will be replacing Bouwmeester potentially as soon as next season. Not sure if they'd give up a first rounder either unless it's conditional upon signing an extension.

Nylander isn't getting traction in the AHL in his draft +2 season - how much value does he really have? Not enough to be the centerpiece in a Trouba trade I'd wager.

Nylander+McCabe+2018 3rd+2019 1st doesn't get you a sign and trade on Jacob Trouba? Buffalo is a hot mess can't see Trouba wanting any part of that organization.

That is such a dumb narrative. Players will go wherever pays them.
