I think its also a question of needing to. They have stuck to the same team for years, and it hasnt worked. They may have to switch it up at some point.

That's a Rod issue, and I've wanted him gone for years. This team SHOULD have won the cup, and his ineptitude cost the team.

Jarvis probably gets $6.5-7M AAV and Guentzel might come closer to $9.5M.

They can afford him, but probably realize that Slavin is going to need to get paid and want to build more depth in the bottom 6. IMO I would trade Kuznetsov, KK, and Burns before dealing Necas

Jarvis on a bridge deal isn't getting more than 5, that's the entire point of a bridge deal. Guentzel might be closer to 9, but Carolina taxes tend to make players more favorable to sign here for less. Slavin's deal isn't up until next year, then they just use Burns' money to extend him. The depth is fine, assuming Nadeau and Blake look as good as they did in their brief time with the big club.

Kuznetsov worked well in Carolina 6 points this postseason in a diminished role is really good. KK I will defend to the end of the earth, this was a down year and everything suggests he bounces back to being a 35-40 point player whose great defensively. Selling low on him would be incredibly dumb. Burns 100%, but that opens up another hole that needs to be addressed

I think you're 1-2 million per year short on most of those contracts. Also, Necas probably wants to be in the top 6 wherever he ends up, if not on the top line.

Going with 3 rookies is certainly a choice, especially on a team trying to win the division back from the Rangers.

I agree that Blake likely stays in the NHL, but Nadeau likely gets a load of AHL time next season (he's too good for NCAA but not ready for the NHL) so you need another middle-six forward.

Jarvis does not sign a bridge worth 5 million when he's worth way more than that on a 2-year contract.

Kuznetsov is not a 2C, and Kotkaniemi is not a 3C.

NHL teams also carry 2 to 3 extra skaters

TJ Brodie is not worth only 1.5

Jarvis is getting paid before Necas and getting more money than him. The canes can afford him but they don’t want to pay him. Moot point

Blake is not ready for the NHL. Watched him live in person 15 times this year.

With respect, the Blake take tells me you didn't watch the Canes at all. Nadeau is closer to NHL ready than Blake. Blake may need some AHL time, but there will be guys that can do that. Someone like Comtois, who I didn't sign, but is an option in the organization already.

Brodie's not worth more than 1.5 at this stage of his career. Jarvis isn't worth more than 5 on a 2 year deal, Kuznetsov isn't a 2C, but he's the best fit, and KK is EASILY a 3C, probably the best option the team has at 3C

Carrying extra skaters is not mandatory, and since there is no LTIR deals here, the cap hits will prorate allowing the Canes to carry more players later in the season, should they wish.

Canes want to pay him, and Jarvis isn't getting paid this summer, he's 100% getting bridged

Great question, doesn't really matter. He can sign if he wants to, but if he gets traded, cool. He's a low-event bottom six center, and he's the third best low even bottom six center on the roster

Would be a player Sabres are interested in. Lot of picks and prospects Sabres could trade for him

I mean, yeah, sure. Not exactly fused about keeping him. He's a fine player, but he's just an older KK

Except he doesn't have to. He said he doesn't think he can keep Skjei, but thinks he can keep all three forwards. Waddell is shockingly open about the scenarios with the Canes if you just listen to him

If you paid attention, Necas is the one who doesn’t want to sign. He won’t be in Carolina long term. Of course Waddell is going to say he wants to try and sign him. He’s said that about a million players. Trocheck, Dougie, every goalie ever.
