Isles retool

Created by: Fafhrd
Team: 2024-25 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: May 18, 2024
Published: May 18, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pelech has had one too many concussions and it's affecting his depth perception and decision-making process. He's just not keeping up with the defensive flow on the backcheck and constantly getting blown by as a result. GM Lou will convince him to go to Robidas Island.

Isles will give Tysplakov a chance at RW3 and if he's really that good (30G in the KHL) he'll move up the rankings pretty fast. But since he'll remain an RFA with the Isles I'd slow-burn him at age 25. If he fails, I'd bring up Maggio or Dufour, and Holmstrom's fine at RW3.

I'd also keep Anders Lee because he was seriously unlucky with expected XGF and he found his game in the latter half of the season. A full season with Patrick Roy will help him get between 20-30 goals. I'd also resign Mike Reilly because he provided the kind of offense the Isles defense missed the past 2 seasons on D. Zadorov's impressed me with the Canucks and he'd provide good depth at LD2/3. I'd consider going after Brett Pesce but I'd consider giving more time for Bolduc, George, and Odelius time to improve. Lastly, Isles need to build out their bottom-six depth, so I'd bring back Clutterbuck and sign Duhaime.

See the note for the Necas trade, but I'd also consider getting Ehlers instead. Team defense is better, offensive depth is better, and stronger scoring up top with Necas and hopefully Tysplakov. And this also gives the Isles time to see what Maggio, Jefferies, and Dufour have in the minors.

  1. Pageau, Jean-Gabriel
Additional Details:
This is largely a salary dump for the Isles (because MacLean makes JGP expendable) but he's still a good player and GM Trotz in Smashville would want that. I can throw in a prospect to make this better but I think it's fair value.
2.
NYI
  1. Necas, Martin [RFA Rights]
CAR
  1. 2024 1st round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Not sure how much wiggle room Carolina has to trade Necas, since they need cap space and he wants to play on the top line somewhere. Think of this as a roundabout way of getting a 1st rounder and Guentzel.

Carolina can keep Necas... he has arb rights, and they have the cap space to keep him and Guentzel. They have almost 30 million after all. This does not even open the conversation. I doubt the Islanders have the assets to get him anyway

A cap dump does not get anything in return

On the other hand, a $5m 3C has very little value

Ain't no way we get a 2nd for Pager, if we do than I'll take back everything I have said about Lou

Carolina has already stated that they're not resigning him or Pesce.

I doubt it, but I'd rather have LTIR, especially with his concussion history.

I threw that in there. Trotz would definitely want him, and there will be a market for JGP.

He's a cap dump to the Isles, but not to other teams. Additionally, his PK and faceoff ability is really good, and he's a borderline 2C/3C. GM Trotz would definitely want him. Doesn't have to be a 2nd rounder in the trade, and I can easily throw in Ishkahkov or Wahlstrom in the deal.

For the Isles, but not for other teams. Doesn't have to be a 2nd rounder, but realistically I can see GM Trotz jumping on that. While I'm at it, make a counteroffer that isn't "I wanna dunk on you."

No, they haven't... and Pesce's still eager to stay. Both are options. AND, Necas is an RFA, so they still hold his rights. With a 3 mill QO, this doesn't even start. Please, don't make things up.

JGP is probably worth a 4th at most. Wahlstrom and Ish also have no value. Add retention and he’s probably worth a 3rd

Nashville also has no need for him either. Not many teams do

MSN... elite reliable source. Plus, Necas isn't a center. So you have a dodgy source when Pesce openly said today he wants to come back... so once again I say do not make things up.

Wahlstrom needs a change of scenery. He hasn't been the same since getting injured in the playoffs a few years ago, and ending up in Lambert's doghouse. He's still got upside and can play in the NHL.

Who's Nashville's 3rd line center? And is he any better than JGP? I'm fine with a 3rd round pick for JGP, though.

MSN quoted Elliotte Friedman. I'm done with you.

So Freidman's speculation, and he openly admitted it is speculation, is what makes you do this? LMFAO. Stop it. Waddell has openly said he wants to sort Necas, Jarvis, and Guentzel out. Pesce may stay or may go, but either way, Islanders don't have the assets for Necas!

Wahlstrom doesn’t have any real talent. He’s just like Kravtsov to the Rangers. Some times they don’t pan out, it happens

I don’t know they have ROR, Novak and Sissons that I know of. Also have a ton of cap space to sign another center instead of giving up assets for JGP
