My AGM response to Bruce Garriochs latest piece in the Ottawa Citizen

Here are some sample quotes from Garrioch and my response to them:

1. "Joonas Korpisalo and Anton Forsberg were amongst the worst netminders in the NHL last season."

"The best bet is to see if anybody is willing to take the final year of Forsberg’s $2.75 million contract off the books. That shouldn’t be an issue."

What ??

You just said that Forsberg was among the worst netminders in the NHL last season.

Why would any team take the final year of Forsberg's contract ??

If you think that shouldn't be an issue, then you're out to lunch.

2. "The expectation is after taking calls on Jakob Chychrun before the deadline that talk could turn to action. He’s headed into the final year of his contract at $4.6 million and the Senators should be able to get a good return."

On the issue of getting a good return, the trades for Connor Brown, Alex DeBrincat and Vladimir Tarasenko seem to suggest otherwise.

What would a good return on Chychrun even look like ?

Care to elaborate on that ??

3. "Artem Zub has been a steadying influence, but league executives believe teams will kick tires on him and, if Staios wants to make changes, then a trade will be an option."

NO, IT WILL NOT BE AN OPTION !!!

4. "It would be no surprise if the club exercised a buyout on the final year of veteran Travis Hamonic’s deal."

Staios made it crystal clear last month he isn't buying anybody out.

https://www.nhl.com/senators/news/steve-staios-end-of-season-notes

Is he lying or are YOU lying, Mr. Garrioch ?? o_O

5. "Will the Senators sign veteran Chris Tanev as a unrestricted free agent? The club made a hard push for him during the season, but was unsuccessful in convincing him to wave his ‘no move clause’ to come here."

WRONG !!!

Tanev did not have a no move clause.

He had a 10 team no-trade list.

Big difference between the two.

Also, use spell check next time before publishing.

6. "Stutzle struggled with consistency last year and will have to improve his two-way game under Green or the skilled centre could find himself sitting for lengthy stretches."

Do you honestly think Travis Green would bench Tim Stutzle for lengthy stretches ??

Who would replace Stutzle in the lineup ??

Rourke Chartier ??

Who in Belleville or amongst the healthy scratches would have a better two-way game than Stutzle ??

Honestly I pretty much agree with all your takes, though I would prefer if Hamonic is boughtout. And btw the pick that we forfeit doesn't actually go to Vegas.

yes trade away OTT ONLY NHL calliber RD who is a defensive Rd, something OTT need another of..makes perfect sense, these analysts are brain dead morons sometimes

OTT declines FLA deal, not even close

    Exactly.

unless someone actually gives us something for him and he decides to waive, which both seem unlikely

May I ask what you think would be a fair return on Chychrun ?

Not from Florida, but in general ?

warming up to the Ehlers for chych trades, tho concerned about Ehlers injury history, chych has that history too and both have player all 82 games this year and OTT could certainly use a solid 2 LW behind Brady.

hopefully on of the big DRD UFA comes to OTT this july to help Zub.

OTT cannot trade him for old players 30+, crappy prospects or late firsts.

Ehlers needs an extension and if he doesn't want one with Ottawa, it doesn't make any sense.

And nobody knows where Florida's 1st in 2026 will end up.

And Sawchyn isn't exactly a crappy prospect ...

considering they might win the cup this year, safe bet it will be in the 20s in 2026 and FLA prospects are bottom of the league, they have among the worst prospect pool in the league

Hamonic better be bought out. Staios better have been lying. It's not like he would have said "yes I'm buying out Hamonic, he's a bum" in front of the media.

    That Zub take is horrendous.

I do agree Stutzle needs to work on his 2-way game and decision making immensely but "sitting for long periods of time?" Huh. Maybe benched here and there but come on Bruce be real.
