Description
As a day 1 season ticket holder with the Knights this would be painful, but winning Stanley Cups is the Vicodin needed to ease the pain. Also, given the Knights are more than likely losing 2-3 original team members this off-season let’s just rip the band aid off completely and get rid of them all and call it a new era.

So here goes, Marchessault and Carrier as UFAs do not get resigned. Theodore has been mentioned as a trade chip all along to provide cap relief, so that is what we will do. Then we just need to find new homes for McNabb and Karlsson (most painful and doesn’t make too much sense in the real world but we will make it happen for this exercise).

Resigning Stephenson and bringing back Reaves will help ease the fans pain as they are both well liked in the community.

Still a deep team and should be enough cap space to extend Marner and Thompson starting 25-26 season. Also, through rotation and injuries (insert Stone joke here) this team would need to get 200 games combined from Dorofeyev, Holtz, Brisson and Poitras to see who can really play at this level.

How much would we have to add to swap Cotter for Roy?

Wild, but interesting. As a Vegas hater I think I could finally exist comfortably knowing this team wouldn't get it done.

Schmid has potential to be great, but I don't think it's worth breaking up that tandem for now, when Hill has been the better of the two. So, I wouldn't bother with the NJ trade despite Holtz upside (acquire him when he's developed is the Vegas way). So can keep McNabb (unless you're making space for both Korczak and Cormier).

I don't understand the Toronto-Vegas trade aside from including Marner + Liljegren (maybe exclude him if you keep McNabb) for Theodore (Why is VG moving Cotter, why are the Leafs moving Reaves?). VG is going to have to add, I'm sure the Leafs would take Roy (or Karlsson). Balance the trade from there with picks.

Boston probably has no interest in trading their one good center prospect for a 30-yo 2C in Karlsson when they could get Lindholm (or Stephenson if VG doesn't sign him) in free agency. VG sure he's waivers exempt, but your VG team has no space for Poitras anyways. If VG signs Stephenson beforehand, Karlsson could probably just be had for the picks.

this all sounds reasonable but i wouldn't trade hill, maybe wait till the deadline. he said he's taking this summer to train in a way that he'll avoid injuries during the season. i think he'll wanna play 40+ games split with LT

not sure if this happens either seeing as GMKM said he wants to keep the cup core as intact as possible

This was all just a fun exercise not based in reality but just thought if some of the last original Knights go this year what might it look like if they all go.

As noted Cotter does not need to go for Reaves, but Reaves is loved in Vegas so the fans and community would welcome his return even if he barely plays. Would Vegas give up Theodore and Roy for Marner and Liljegren? They might given that helps the money work out and their depth at center, especially if a mid round draft pick or two came back.

As for the Karlsson to Bruins pushback, wow. With the Bruins always being my #1 team I would make this deal in a heartbeat. I could go off on a big rant on the Bruins right now, especially with the Panthers winning two years in a row with the handshake line in Boston. However, that is not what this exercise was about so we will save that for another time.

Lastly, yes Hill does not need to be traded and probably not even for them to afford Marner if that goes down. However, given the exercise I felt the Knights needed a better 3C option with Karlsson gone so that cleared the space to re-sign Stephenson. That really would be the case even more so if Roy went the other direction for Marner.
