Not sure what you're getting at here. Marner does nothing to help the long term plan in chicago. He'd only make them good enough to be a middling team. Making their draft picks worse and gaining nothing but wildcard births and early playoff exits.

Not next season and probably not the year after either. The rest of the roster isn't close to playoff caliber yet. Hawks might he interested in Marner, but they aren't trading away any of their young cornerstone players to get him. 2OA is a young cornerstone player.

Demidov and Marner are essentially the same player. Undersized star wingers, it moves your playoffs up the time line but Demidov is likely the same kind of player Marner is

If the Hawks want a dynamic RW playmaker, they will draft Demidov who aligns with their rebuild timeline and will be on a ELC. There is zero reason to do this as such, nor is Marner worth the 2nd overall pick in the draft anyway.

A way better solution short term is to draft Marner and bring Kane back at $5M per year for 4 years.

And he'll be on his rookie deal instead of marners ridiculous 12 mil+ contract. Plus he's closer to bedards age unlike marner who will start to decline when bedard hits his prime.

Or more like be in total decline 7 years from now when Bedard is peaking.
