I mean yes it was a down year but he was also one of the best defensive forwards in hockey, leading the entire league in shot blocks by a forward & his takeaway to giveaway ratio was also very good

Is that what you're paying him 13 million to do? Does the league leader in blocked shots normally get much attention?

As a Flames fan that's the type of return I would love to get for Tanev. A 4/5 young D that will be a top 4 D next year.

We have a bit of a gap in the D prospects, since Valimaki/Mackey didn't work out. We could also lose as many as 3 top 5 D this year, so it would be the perfect opportunity for a young D to play heavy minutes in all situations.

I mean he is also the league leader in goals since coming into the league, no one else has more in that time frame

It's cause he's not Canadian, pretty sure Ron Maclean black balled him because he's American and has a terrible mustache.
