It was previously reported that the Shane O'Brien buyout by the Calgary Flames in June 2014 was a compliance buyout and therefore had no cap hit implications (As part of the 2012 CBA, teams were permitted two compliance buyouts which allowed a team to buyout a player with no cap hit penalties).
It has been confirmed to CapFriendly that the buyout was not a compliance buyout, and was instead a standard buyout. The resulting buyout cap hit was therefore as follows:
2014-15: $533,333
2015-16: $733,333
The 2015-16 value plays an important role in why the Calgary Flames have a bonus overage penalty in the 2016-17 season.
